2nd Latin American & 12th Brazilian Congress on Computational Intelligence 2015 (LA-CCI & CBIC).

 2nd Latin American & 12th Brazilian
Congress on Computational Intelligence 2015 (LA-CCI & CBIC). Thing are OK and running smoothly. The website of
our Joint Congress is la-cci.org and the CFP is issued for a few weeks now. The congress will be held in the Southern
Brazilian city of Curitiba 13-16/Oct/2015. And it is our plan to transform LA-CCI in the Regional version of WCCI. As a matter
of fact we successfully tried the concept back in 2013 with BRICS-CCI. It will feature three topics-one each day:
(1) Evolutionary & Swarm, (2) Neural & Learning Systems, and (3) Fuzzy & Stochastic Modeling.
        So far we have a network of 8 Latin American Countries (Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Bolívia and
Venezuela). All are committed to this undertaking (and all heavily involved with IEEE-CIS). Last year we drafted a Society
LA-CIS (during the first LA-CCI, in Bariloche-Argentina). And things are going good as next year we already decided that the
venue of 3rd LA-CCI will be in Colombia (together with a national Congress – this will be the format).

        For this year and for your information, I include below the High Chairs of both Congress:
            –Heitor Lopes – General Chair 2015 (Brazil);
            –Marley Vellasco – PC Chair of LA-CCI;
            –Carmelo Bastos – PC Chair of CBIC;
            –Renato Tinós – Schools Director;
            –Alvaro Canon – General Chair 2015 (Colombia);

        This message is to inform you that recently the joint steering committees of LA-CCI and CBIC
have approved the name of Renato Tinós to be the Director of the two Schools associated to two the
above mentioned Congresses organized by us. This has been a tradition in all editions of CBIC (and
now will be also to LA-CCI), that is, to always have a School aiming at educating young researchers
and practitioners. I assume he could work with you and cook something 🙂

        Césare Alipi/Huajin Tang, respectively, Vice-President for Education of the IEEE-CIS, Chair of the
Subcommittee, who can (I imagine) help on the liaison with eligible DLP speakers and also cater from
funding provided IEEE-CIS chapter are involved in our Schools.
        Kevin Hanft is Conference Organizer Engagement and Education IEEE Meetings, Conferences &
Events, and might have some important offers regarding contribution and collaboration of CIS R9 (on
Conference training discussions). This could be particularly useful also for future organizers.
Dear Heitor/Alvaro,
         Bernadette Bouchon-Meunier is Vice-President for Conferences of the IEEE-CIS. And along side
Gary Yen, with CIS Technical CoSponsorship (TCS) Subcommittee, they represent and are key contacts for
Technical Co-Sponsorship and other linkages with CIS. Obviously, we can also rely in the promptness, friendship
and guidance of our President and President Elect, respectively, Xin Yao and Pablo Estevez.

        I hope you can now exchange ideas, requests and expectations so that we can approximate IEEE-CIS from
Latin America (and vice-versa). The new LA-CIS will be born willing (if this is convenient to all) to be link to IEEE-CIS,
perceiving itself as part of a federation of CI Societies (led by IEEE-CIS). As discussed this is not to compete with
chapters nor with IEEE Regions, but will try to bridge them in a regional-thematic way. Many colleagues in all counties
involved are working towards this high-goal.
        -We hope to see you all in October, where we could maybe seal some agreements there. Please feel free to
suggest anything as we are open for technical collaborations and social innovations.
