Background

In both developed and developing countries, problems of poor planning,
policy execution and institutional weaknesses have contributed greatly to
the problems we face today such as hunger, poverty, pollution, massive
wealth divide, poor education, inadequate health services, inadequate
disaster response, access to government services.

Armed with the tools necessary to alleviate these conditions, many
Operations Researchers have worked in these areas. This conference aims to
bring together operations researchers who have used OR tools to address
problems to uplift living conditions.

The EURO Working Group on Operational Research for Development (EWG ORD)
aims to promote communication and collaboration among researchers working in
areas of operational research for development within and outside of EURO.
EWG ORD has been working closely with the International Federation of
Operational Research Societies (IFORS) in promoting the importance of
operational research and its related techniques to improving living
conditions in the developing and developed countries.

Conference Format
The Workshop will be opened by the plenary talk of Geoff Royston who has had
extensive experience on analysis and research to inform the design,
implementation and evaluation of evidence-based policies and programmes in
the health field.

Scheduled to talk about  A Life in Crime, Sue Merchant spent most of her 28
years in the London Metropolitan Police carrying out and supervising

application areas will be discussed followed by a hands-on tutorial which
will enable delegates to experience both tools. Read more at
