The third workshop on “Ensuring and Validating Safety of Automated Vehicles” will take place June 23rd at the IEEE Intelligent Vehicles Symposium (IV2020) in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The workshop will address multiple topics related to risk reduction and the safe operation of automated vehicles and will explore novel approaches towards ensuring and validating safety.

The full day workshop will feature paper presentations, one or two panel discussions, as well as one or two invited talks. We welcome and encourage contributions reporting on original research, work under development, and experiments related but not limited to the following topics:

– System modeling
– Hazard identification
– Safety analysis
– Metrics and benchmarks for risk and safety
– Safety concepts
– Safety implications for system architectures
– Handling of challenging/critical scenarios
– Safety of environment perception in open environments
– Ensuring safety under uncertainty
– Self-perception, self-awareness, introspection and related approaches of other communities
– Determination of environment perception performance
– Safety validation and testing
– Safety implications for simulator architecture/design
– Safety of the intended functionality (SOTIF)
– Release for operation in public traffic
– Safety argumentation for machine learning based systems
– Interplay of safety and security in automated vehicles
– Standardization
– Taxonomy and terminology
– Safety and security engineering guidelines for automated vehicles
– Collaboration initiatives to promote introduction of sufficiently safe automated vehicles
– Safety implications for data logging architecture/design
– Type approval/homologation for automated vehicles

The timeline is as follows:

– Submission deadline: March 14, 2020
– Notification of acceptance: April 18, 2020
– Camera ready version due: May 2, 2020
– Workshop: June 23, 2020
