Hello everyone,
In 2023, Statistical Horizons launched its Distinguished Speaker Series, a series of 3-hour livestream seminars taught by some of the most prominent and innovative scholars in the field. On Tuesday, November 18th, Professor Benjamin Bolker will present Mixed Models in the Wild: Techniques, Workflows, and Challenges.
This seminar introduces mixed (multilevel/hierarchical) models, which account for grouped or clustered data where standard independence assumptions don’t hold. We will cover foundational concepts, software tools, and challenges in fitting and interpreting these models, especially with sparse or large datasets. The three-hour format includes an overview, a practical modeling workflow with examples, and a deeper dive into advanced issues.
Benjamin Bolker, Ph.D., is Professor of Mathematics & Statistics and Biology at McMaster University. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, including one listed in the top 25 most-cited papers of the 21st century. Bolker developed and continues to maintain widely used R packages with millions of downloads and tens of thousands of literature citations.
This seminar will be held via Zoom from 1pm-4pm ET, but you can also join asynchronously by viewing the recorded video.
