The combination of different intelligent methods is a very active research area

in Artificial Intelligence (AI). The aim is to create integrated or hybrid methods

that benefit from each of their components. It is generally believed that complex

problems can be easier solved with such integrated or hybrid methods. Some of the

existing efforts combine what are called soft computing methods (fuzzy logic,

neural networks and genetic algorithms) either among themselves or with more

traditional AI technologies such as logic and rules. Another stream of efforts

integrates case-based reasoning and machine learning with soft-computing and

traditional AI methods. Yet another integrates agent-based approaches with logic

and also non-symbolic approaches. Some of the combinations have been quite important

and more extensively used, like neuro-symbolic methods, neuro-fuzzy methods and

methods combining rule-based and case-based reasoning. However, there are other

combinations that are still under investigation, such as those related to the

Semantic Web and Deep Learning. In some cases, combinations are based on first

principles, but in most cases they are created in the context of specific

applications. 

 

The Workshop is intended to become an annual forum for exchanging experience and

ideas among researchers and practitioners who are dealing with combining intelligent

methods either based on first principles or in the context of specific applications.

analysis and emotion recognition and in Deep Learning and Logic Integrations.

 

PAPER SUBMISSION

We are interested in high quality research papers on the above or related topics.

Interested authors are invited to submit original contributions to the workshop.

The papers should be submitted through the IISA-21 submission system

(https://easyconferences.eu/iisa2021/submission/). In the “Select Track” page,

choose “CIMA 2021”. In preparing your submission, follow IISA-21

guidelines (https://easyconferences.eu/iisa2021/instructions-for-authors/). All papers

will be refereed by at least two members of the program committee of the Workshop.

Accepted papers will be presented at the Workshop sessions of the conference.

 

PROCEEDINGS

he papers of the workshop will be included in the IISA 2021 proceedings (published in

IEEEXplore as in previous years). After the workshop, we may issue a

Springer volume with extended versions of the accepted papers, after a second review round. 

 

ATTENDANCE

One of the authors of each accepted paper should register for the IISA Conference

and present the work at the associated Workshop session of the conference. If none

of the authors is registered, their paper will not be presented at the Workshop and

SPECIAL SESSION 01: COMPUTATIONAL INTELLIGENCE FOR ENHANCED AGENT-BASED MODELS

The special session will aim at providing a leading international forum to bring together researchers and practitioners from diverse fields, such as computer science, information technology, business, education, human factors, systems engineering, and robotics. The session will aim at examining the design principles and performance characteristics of various approaches in agent-based technology among many different domains, such as surveillance, monitoring, IoT, earth observations and any agent-oriented design systems; At the same time, it will aim at increasing the cross-fertilization of ideas on the development of autonomous agents and multi-agent systems by Computational Intelligence models.

By encouraging idea-sharing and discussions on the underlying logical, cognitive, physical, and sociological foundations as well as the enabling technologies of intelligent agents, the Special Session will foster the development of novel paradigms and advanced solutions in agent-based systems by Computational Intelligence techniques. SPECIAL SESSION 2 : ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS FOR COMPUTER AND ROBOT VISION

Artificial Neural Networks have been used in many analysis problems due to their ability to approximate complex functions and relationships following a data-driven learning paradigm. Recent developments in end-to-end learning methodologies based on deep Artificial Neural Network architectures led to remarkable performance improvements in visual information analysis. Nowadays, Multilayer Perceptrons, Convolutional Neural Networks, Recurrent Neural Networks and Graph Neural Networks are the de-facto choices for a variety of problems coming from Computer and Robot Vision fields. However, state-of-the-art ANN-based systems need training on large-scale annotated datasets, and require an enormous number of computations and high memory being available only in specialized computing hardware, like high-end Graphical Processing Units and parallel computational systems. Thus, adoption of such high-performing ANN-based solutions in real-life Computer and Robotic Vision problems in general is limited.

SPECIAL SESSION 3 : HYBRID MACHINE LEARNING ALGORITHMS AND APPLICATIONS

Soft Computing (SC) methodologies include Neural Networks, Fuzzy Logic, Evolutionary Algorithms, and Chaos Theory, etc. Each of these methodologies has advantages and disadvantages. Despite this, many problems have been solved using these methodologies. However, many real-world complex and industrial problems require the integration of several of these techniques to achieve the efficiency and accuracy needed in practice. This session will include papers dealing with methods integrating different SC methodologies for solving real-world problems. The Special Session will consider hybrid machine learning algorithms and their applications in the following areas: Disease Diagnosis, Non-linear data Classification, Pattern Recognition, Image Recognition, etc. Hybrid machine learning algorithms offer advantages when a prudent combination of methods is performed, and in this case, can be a powerful tool in solving complex problems and real-life applications.

SPECIAL SESSION 5 : COMPUTATIONAL INTELLIGENCE IN REMOTE SENSING DATA ANALYSIS

The recent time has witnessed an enormous volume of remote sensing data using airborne and space-borne sensors. The general objective is to provide large-scale, homogeneous information processing from these data. The sheer volume of these multi-modal data sources needs highly- automated and intelligent frameworks. The resurgence of deep neural networks has popularized Computational Intelligence (CI) techniques. They have found wide applications in the land- cover/land-use classification, content-based data retrieval, region-detection, and temporal analysis of remote sensing data. Due to the availability of many satellite missions, certain multi- modal approaches like data fusion for pan-sharpening and colorization problems, and cross- modal data retrieval be of extreme importance. Earth observation tasks also imply the need for various location-based services, online mapping services, surveillance, crop-monitoring, soil- moisture tracking, various forms of change detection applications, to name a few. “Free Will in Artificial Intelligence: What volition neuroscience says about free behaviour and implications for the design of autonomous artificial intelligence agents”

The human capacity for free will or volitional (i.e. voluntary) behaviour has intrigued scientists and philosophers for thousands of years. Over the last few decades, neuroscientists have uncovered many neural correlates of voluntary behaviours and identified several decision stages involving specific neuroanatomy and dynamics (Haggard 2008). While a reward-optimized decision framework lies at the core of most fast decisions it is supported by slower time-course motivational systems that identify long-term needs (e.g. feeding, offspring care; Maslow 1943, Kenrick 2010). In the absence of naturally evolved motivational drives, autonomous general artificial agents will require the design of motivational systems that will pose unique challenges to our understanding of free will while offering creative opportunities.
This symposium seeks submissions focusing on extending evolutionary biology and the neuroscience of volition towards the design of internally motivated, freely behaving autonomous artificial agents.

Virtual Conference:

The DMSVIVA2021 conference will be held as a Virtual conference, similar to last year's conference.

 

Main Theme of Conference:

The main theme of the 27th International DMS Conference on Visualization and Visual Languages (DMSVIVA2021) is Extreme Visual Languages, which are visual languages that can communicate an integrated/holistic meaning of an application, a philosophy or even the entire spatial/temporal dimensions of a universe in a single or a few visual expressions.  An example is the aliens' visual language in the movie “The Arrival” where each visual sentence expresses the continuum of space and time.  Another example is a visual diagram illustrating the spread of Covid-19 in the world. A third example is the Ying/Yang icon that appears in the national flag of the Republic of Korea (and many other places).  A fourth example is the red flag. A natural extension to include sound and other media leads to Extreme Multimedia Languages. Papers are solicited on extreme visual and multimedia languages, both abbreviated as XVLs, including empirical and comparative studies of existing XVLs and the investigation of syntax, semantics, dynamics and application integration of existing and/or new XVLs and related topics. The conference organizers seek contributions of high quality papers, panels or tutorials, addressing any novel aspect of sentient multimedia systems that significantly benefits from the incorporation and/or integration of multimedia data (e.g., visual, audio, pen, voice, image, etc.), especially in visual languages and distance education technologies, for presentation at the conference and publication in the proceedings.

 

Selected Papers of DMSVIVA2021 will be published in special issue of JVLC.

 

Co-Located Virtual Conference:

Papers must be written in English. An electronic version (PDF format) of the full paper should be submitted using the following URL:

When submitting, select the main conference DMSVIIVA2021. Manuscript must include a 200-word abstract and no more than 8 pages of double column text (including figures and references). All submissions must not be published or under consideration for publication in a journal or in a conference with proceedings. Papers will be evaluated based on originality, significance, technical soundness and clarify of exposition. Depending upon the results of evaluation a paper may be accepted as regular paper (10 pages), short paper (7 pages) or technical notes (1 page and demo/poster presentation).
