*Introduction*

 

The general objective of the 3D Shape Retrieval Contest is to evaluate the effectiveness of 3D-shape retrieval algorithms. SHREC2020 is the fifteens edition of the contest. Like previous years, it is organized in conjunction with the Eurographics Workshop on 3D Object Retrieval, where the results will be reviewed and presented, https://3dor2021.github.io/.

 

Thanks to the efforts of previous track organizers, SHREC already provides many resources to compare and evaluate 3D retrieval methods. For this year's contest, we aim to explore new and updated tracks. Therefore, the participants are invited to have an active role in the organization of the event. This includes proposing track themes, building or acquiring a test collection, and deciding upon the queries, relevance assessment, and performance measures.

 

The participants of each track will collectively write a paper, which will be peer reviewed, and published in Computers & Graphics upon acceptance. At least one author per track must register for the workshop, and present the results. We also cordially invite all participants of a track to register and attend the workshop.

 

*Tracks*

 

The tracks organized in the past years have covered different aspects and tasks of 3D shape retrieval, for example: rigid or non-rigid models; partial (e.g. range scan) or complete models; sketch-based 3D retrieval; generic or domain specific models (e.g. CAD, biometrics, architectural and protein), and various aspects such as metric learning, outlier detection, correspondence, robustness, stability, registration, classification, recognition, pose estimation, and machine learning.

 

Now we solicit again proposals for tracks. You may opt for one of the above themes, or propose new ones. Track organizers are responsible for all aspects of organizing the track, such as: the task, the data collection (copyright issues, etc.), the queries, the ground truth, the experimental design, the evaluation method, and the procedural aspects, writing the final paper in collaboration with the contestants, and submitting it. *Procedure*

 

The following list is a step-by-step description of the activities:

 

• Potential track organizers send their proposal to shrec@cs.uu.nl, describing the envisioned task, collection, queries, ground truth, evaluation method, and expected number of participants, and plans to apply for the graphics replicability stamp.

• Promising tracks and their organizers will be listed at the SHREC web page, the track organizers start working out the details.

• Participants register for the tracks they want to participate in.

• Each track is performed according to its own schedule.

• The track organizers collect the results.

• The track results are combined into a joint paper. Papers are subject to peer review, accepted journal papers are published in Computers & Graphics.

• The description of the tracks and their results are presented at the Eurographics Workshop on 3D Object Retrieval (4-5 September 2020, Graz, Austria).

 

*SHREC Time Schedule*

 

• December 29, 2020: Submission deadline for track proposals.

• December 30, 2020: Notification of acceptance of track proposals.

• January till March 15, 2021: Each track has its own time line.

• March 15, 2021: Each track is completed, and results are included in a track report, submitted for review.

• April 15, 2021: Reviews done, first stage decision on acceptance or rejection.

• May 15, 2021: First revision done.

• June 15, 2021: Second stage decision on acceptance or rejection.

• June 30, 2021: Final revision.

• July 05, 2021: Final decision on acceptance.

• September, 2021: Publication online in Computers & Graphics journal.

 

The individual tracks will have their own time schedule for registration of participants, release of queries or submission of executables, and submission of results, etc.

Special Issue “Human Emotion Recognition”

Dear Colleagues,

Robotic systems and computers have become a prominent aspect of our lives, and their presence gives rise to unique technologies. Therefore, human–computer interaction becomes more realistic if computers are capable of recognising the expressions of the human during interaction. Emotion and expression recognition are intuitive yet extremely complicated tasks, as they lay at the base of human–computer interaction, ranging from mobile computing and gaming to health monitoring and robotics. Emotions are evoked by different mechanisms such as events, objects, other people, or phenomena that lead to various consequences manifesting in our body. Automatic affect recognition methods utilize various input types, such as facial expressions, speech, gestures and body language, and physical signals such as electroencephalography (EEG), electromyography (EMG), electrodermal activity, etc. Although emotion recognition has been investigated for many years, it is still an active research area because of the growing interest in applications exploiting avatars, animation, neuromarketing, and sociable robots.

This Special Issue invites contributions that address (i) systems and devices for capturing emotions, and (ii) machine-learning techniques of relevance to tackle the issues above. In particular, submitted papers should clearly show novel contributions and innovative applications covering, but not limited to, any of the following topics around emotion recognition:

  • Systems and devices for capturing bio-signals;
  • Affective database creation, experiment datasets;
  • Data pre-processing;
  • Non-intrusive sensor technologies;
  • Emotion recognition using mobile phones and smart bracelet;
  • Smart clothes and emotion;
  • Machine-learning techniques for emotion recognition;   
  • Deep learning for emotion recognition.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website.

AIMS AND SCOPE

The 2021 IEEE International Workshop on Biometrics and Forensics (IWBF 2021)
will be held in Rome, Italy, on May 6-7, 2021. IWBF is an international
forum devoted to facilitating synergies in research and development among
the areas of multimedia forensics, forensic biometrics, and forensic
science. State-of-the-art research in areas such as biometrics, forensic
science, surveillance, and multimedia forensics will be presented. The 9th
edition of IWBF will be a meeting place for those concerned with the use of
advanced biometric technologies in forensic applications, attracting
participants from industry, research, academia, and end-users.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Prospective authors are invited to submit original and unpublished work, in
English, with up to 6 pages including results, figures and references.
Overlength submissions will not be reviewed.

Authors should follow carefully all instructions and guidelines provided in
the  <https://www.ieee.org/conferences/publishing/templates.html> IEEE
conference style and use the respective template. Manuscripts must be
submitted in PDF format using the
<https://cmt3.research.microsoft.com/IWBF2021> Microsoft CMT submission
system.

The review process will be double blind, submissions shall be properly
anonymized.

CALL FOR SPECIAL SESSIONS

The IWBF 2021 technical program will include Special Sessions to complement
the regular program with new or emerging topics of particular interest, in
line with the technical scope of the conference. Proposals will be evaluated
based on topic novelty and associated impact, organizing committee
qualifications, as well as the proposed list of contributed papers.

CALL FOR DEMOS

The IWBF 2021 organizers invite academia, industry researchers and
practitioners to showcase their work in biometrics and forensics through
demonstrations. We are searching for interactive displays of innovative
methods, systems and applications within the workshop's topics of interest.

CALL FOR DOCTORAL CONSORTIUM

The IWBF 2021 Doctoral Consortium aims to provide a platform for current and
prospective Ph.D. students to present their ideas and ongoing research, meet
other researchers, and obtain feedback from well-known advisers about
possible directions for their future research. The doctoral consortium is a
great opportunity for students to discuss the strengths/weaknesses of
different research proposals
