Intelligent Biosignal Processing in Wearable and Implantable Sensors

Special Issue Information:

Dear colleagues,
We are very pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue related to this emerging domain in health care and technical sciences, i.e. intelligent monitoring and processing in portable and/or implantable (bio)sensors.

Biological signals, or biosignals, are space, time, or space-time records of biological events. Among them, those presenting respiratory cycles, heart rate and cardiac cycles, blood oxygenation, brain activity, muscle movement, and human gait are more popular. A variety of active and passive sensors, some with on-board processing capability, are available to provide the most accurate and efficient recordings of the above data. The underlying information, however, may not always be visualized by the naked eye and therefore, signal processing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence (AI) techniques have been constantly under research and development to provide a better understanding and recognition of human body state using raw data records. Women in Computer Vision Workshop @ECCV 2020 Call

The WiCV Workshop will be co-located with the virtual ECCV 2020 conference, on the 23rd August 2020.

The workshop is a half-day gathering with invited speakers, a panel discussion, poster presentations, and mentoring sessions. 

The event brings together students, faculty, and research scientists for an opportunity to exchange ideas and connect over a mutual interest in computer vision. 

Attendees are invited to apply to present their work. While paper submission is open to those that identify as female, all genders are invited to attend the workshop.

Important Dates

  • Submission Deadline: July 7, 2020
  • Acceptance Notification: August 3, 2020
  • Camera Ready Deadline: August 10, 2020
  • Workshop: August 23, 2020

 

Submission Instructions

  • We encourage female (undergraduate and graduate) students, post-docs, and junior researchers in all areas of computer vision to submit a short paper (5 pages single column excluding references) describing new, concurrently or previously published research or work-in-progress.
  • The reviewing process is double-blind.
  • Authors of all accepted papers will be invited to present their work virtually in the workshop.
  • The presenter need not be the first author of a submission.
  • While all presenters will be female, all genders are invited to attend the workshop.
  • All accepted papers will be listed on the workshop website. Please note that there will be no formal proceedings from this workshop.

Paper template: Please use the final ECCV 2020 template. Papers are expected to be a maximum of 5 pages not including references. 

Registration awards: We are hoping to cover registration fees to ECCV for primary authors of accepted papers. If you wish to be considered for a registration grant, please mark 'yes' to the question 'Are you applying for a registration grant?' when submitting your paper on CMT.

Mentoring: We will provide all authors of accepted papers with virtual mentoring opportunities from senior members of the research community.

ACM Computer Science in Cars Symposium (CSCS), Deadline Aug 28th

I would like to draw your attention to the ACM Computer Science in Cars Symposium (CSCS).
This year's focus is “Future Challenges in Artificial Intelligence and Security for Autonomous Vehicles“.
The symposium will take place on December 02, 2020 at Technical University of Ingolstadt (Germany) – if necessary a remote presentation is possible this year.

The CSCS is ACM's flagship Car IT event.
We are bringing together the likes of scientists, engineers, business representatives and everyone who shares a passion for solving the myriad of complex problems of in-vehicular technology and it's application in automation, driver/vehicular safety, and driving system security.

Special Issue on Advances in Domain Adaptation for Computer Vision

 

Aim and Scope: 

In daily routines, humans, not only learn and apply knowledge for visual tasks but also have intrinsic abilities to transfer knowledge between related vision tasks. For example, if a new vision task is relevant to any previous learning, it is possible to transfer the learned knowledge for handling the new vision task. In developing new computer vision algorithms, it is desired to utilize these capabilities to make the algorithms adaptable. Generally, traditional computer vision methods do not adapt to a new task and have to learn the new task from the beginning. These methods do not consider that the two visual tasks may be related and the knowledge gained in one may be applied to learn the other one efficiently in lesser time. Domain adaptation for computer vision is the area of research, which attempts to mimic this human behavior by transferring the knowledge learned in one or more source domains and use it for learning the related visual processing task in the target domain. Recent advances in domain adaptation, particularly in cotraining, transfer learning, and online learning have benefited computer vision research significantly. For example, learning from high-resolution source domain images and transferring the knowledge to learning low-resolution target domain information. This special issue will focus on the recent advances in domain adaptation for different computer vision tasks. 


 Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: 

·       Domain adaptation for machine learning frameworks for learning deep representations 

·       Domain adaptation for face detection/recognition and tracking

·       Domain adaptation for object detection/ recognition and tracking

·       Domain adaptation and hybrid models for real-time computer vision tasks

·       Domain adaptation for human pose detection/recognition and estimation 

·       Domain adaptation for event/action detection and recognition

·       Domain adaptation for few-shot learning

·       Domain adaptation for deep neural network optimization

Paper evaluation and submission: 

Submitted papers should present original, unpublished work, relevant to one of the topics of the Special Issue. All submitted papers will be evaluated on the basis of relevance, the significance of contribution, technical quality, and quality of presentation, by at least two independent reviewers (the papers will be reviewed following standard peer-review procedures of the Journal). Each paper will be reviewed rigorously and possibly in two rounds.
