Call for Proposals for the Organization of ECCV 2024

 

The European Computer Vision Association (ECVA) invites candidate organizers to submit proposals for the organization of ECCV 2024.  The European Conference on Computer Vision is a premiere conference for computer vision research, organized in alternation with ICCV, the international version on the same topic. Where ICCV is organized in odd years, ECCV is organized in even years.  ECCV 2020 is being held virtually, ECCV 2022 is planned to be held in Tel Aviv, Israel. 

 

This is to call potential organizers to submit their proposals to organize the conference in 2024. There is no format to comply with but obviously the best and most complete among the proposals will have a good chance of being selected. Proposals should at least include the following information: dates, city, meeting site, hotels, and team details (general chairs, program chairs, finance chair, local arrangements, and some of the other members in charge of the program). ECCV is generally held in autumn (September / October) and submission deadlines should be synchronized with other top-vision conferences (in particular the CVPRs of the same and following year).

 

Given the precarious situation about the pandemic, economic situation or climate based travel restrictions we believe it is important for future organizers to make plans which are flexible with respect to the number of physical attendees and encourage candidate organizers to investigate hybrid participation models combining physical and remote participation. 

 

It might still be necessary to allow for the main venue to be capable of supporting 5,000 – 10,000 attendees and have sufficient space for the industrial exhibition, which generally means convention centres or similar venues. The team should contact the site in advance to make sure the intended dates are available and attempt to reserve those dates if possible. The proposal should include a preliminary budget.

 

At ECCV 2020, the general assembly of the ECVA will convene to discuss current matters and to select the organizers and the site of ECCV 2024. The date for that meeting will be fixed asap. 

 

The ECVA is composed of the general chairs and program chairs of the past editions of the conference. The ECVA will first decide on the order of the meeting and how to reach a conclusion. Then, proposers are invited to present their proposal in 10 minutes each exactly. (If there are many proposers the time for presentation may be shortened, of which fact the proposers will be notified.)

 

Material to illustrate the proposal must be submitted to ECVA (eccv-proposal@ecva.net) before August 15th, 2020. Proposers will be notified upon reception on time. Proposals will be forwarded to the ECVA members.

We are happy to announce that UAI 2020 registration is now open! This year's conference will be fully virtual, with tutorials August 3rd and the main conference August 4-6, 2020.

We'll have 3 tutorials by Doina Precup (off-policy RL), John Duchi (distributionally robust optimization), and Markus Reichstein (applications to climate / earth science). In addition to plenty of Q&A time for the papers, we'll be experimenting with new ways of facilitating meeting new people and virtual networking.

SUMAC 2020 – The 2nd workshop on Structuring and Understanding of Multimedia heritAge Contents

*** Aims and scope

The digitization of large quantities of analogue data and the massive production of born-digital documents for many years now provide us with large volumes of varied multimedia data (images, maps, text, video, multisensor data, etc.), an important feature of which is that they are cross-domain. “Cross-domain” reflects the fact that these data may have been acquired in very different conditions: different acquisition systems, times and points of view (e.g. a 1962 postcard from the Arc de Triomphe vs. a recent street-view acquisition by mobile mapping of the same monument). These data represent an extremely rich heritage that can be exploited in a wide variety of fields, from SSH to land use and territorial policies, including smart city, urban planning, tourism, creative media and entertainment. In terms of research in computer science, they address challenging problems related to the diversity and volume of the media across time, the variety of content descriptors (potentially including the time dimension), the veracity of the data, and the different user needs with respect to engaging with this rich material and the extraction of value out of the data. These challenges are reflected in research topics such as multimodal and mixed media search, automatic content analysis, multimedia linking and recommendation, and big data analysis and visualisation, where scientific bottlenecks may be exacerbated by the time dimension, which also provides topics of interest such as multimodal time series analysis.

The objective of the second edition of this workshop is to present and discuss the latest and most significant trends in the analysis, structuring and understanding of multimedia contents dedicated to the valorization of heritage, with emphasis on the unlocking of and access to the big data of the past. We welcome research contributions related to the following (but not limited to) topics:

– Multimedia and cross-domain data interlinking and recommendation
– Dating and spatialization of historical data
– Mixed media data access and indexing
– Deep learning in adverse conditions (transfer learning, learning with side information, etc.)
– Multi-modal time series analysis, evolution modelling
– Multi-modal and multi-temporal data rendering
– HCI / Interfaces for large scale data sets
– Smart digitization of massive quantities of data
– Benchmarking, open data movement

– Livio de Luca (CNRS, France): modelling, semantisation and restitution of 3D digital heritage objects – application to digital restoration of Notre-Dame de Paris.

Submission format. All submissions must be original work not under review at any other workshop, conference, or journal. The workshop will accept papers describing completed work as well as work in progress. One submission format is accepted: full paper, which must follow the formatting guidelines of the main conference ACM MM 2020. Full papers should be from 6 to 8 pages (plus 2 additional pages for the references), encoded as PDF and using the ACM Article Template. Peer Review and publication in ACM Digital Library. Paper submissions must conform with the “double-blind” review policy. All papers will be peer-reviewed by experts in the field, they will receive at least two reviews. Acceptance will be based on relevance to the workshop, scientific novelty, and technical quality. Depending on the number, maturity and topics of the accepted submissions, the work will be presented via oral or poster sessions. The workshop papers will be published in the ACM Digital Library.

Taking into account lack of certainty that it will be possible to
organize the conference on-site (in Sofia) in September, we have decided
that there is no other way but to organize the conference

100% telepresence/video-based/

This decision makes us very sad, but we believe that this is the best
one we can make. This decision has consequences. First, the new
conference fee has been reduced to 150 euro (for each contributed and
accepted paper). Second, since we do not have to deal with local
arrangements, we can use the extra time and we have established the new
submission deadline. It is now July 3, 2020 for the regular papers. We
are looking forward to e-meet you.

The FedCSIS 2020 Conference invites submissions of POSITION PAPERS to
its respective tracks/technical sessions. Position papers must not
exceed 8 pages and they should relate to an ongoing research or
experience. Position papers will be presented by the authors alongside
regular papers. Position papers may be also submitted as DEMO PAPERS and
presented as demonstrations of software tools and products. They should
describe non-for-profit software tools in a prototype-, alpha-, or
beta-version.

We invite TWO TYPES OF POSITION PAPERS:

– EMERGING RESEARCH PAPERS present preliminary research results from
work-in-progress based on sound scientific approach but presenting work
not completely validated as yet. They must describe precisely the
research problem and its rationale. They must also define the intended
future work including the expected benefits from solution to the tackled
problem.

– CHALLENGE PAPERS propose and describe research challenges in theory or
practice of computer science and information systems. The papers in this
category must be based on deep understanding of existing research or
industrial problems and should be defining new promising research
directions.
