Effective 3D perception of the environment greatly enriches the knowledge of the surrounding environment and is crucial to effectively develop high-level applications for various purposes. Pivotal to 3D perception is the acquisition/estimation of reliable depth information—a task for which several technologies exist, ranging from active sensors (e.g., Time-of-Flight devices) to passive cameras, coupled with a variety of different techniques allowing for depth estimation from images (stereo matching, structure from motion, and more).
From an accurate reconstruction of the surrounding 3D scene, several complex problems can be addressed, such as autonomous navigation and localization, tracking, surveillance, robotics, interaction with other agents, and manipulation of the sensed environment. In this field as well, the recent advances in deep learning have rapidly found place and spread.
The aim of this Special Issue is to present both techniques to reliably acquire 3D data and to tackle computer vision tasks by exploiting this information, exploring novel solutions for perception, as well as for applications.

This Special Issue invites contributions in the following topics (but is not limited to these):

  • 3D reconstruction scene understanding
  • RGB-D computer vision

Wireless ad hoc, sensor, along with ubiquitous networks have recently witnessed their fastest growth period ever in history, and this trend is likely to continue for the foreseeable future. However, as such networks become increasingly complex, performance modelling and evaluation will play a crucial part in their design process to ensure their successful deployment and exploitation in practice.

This symposium will bring together scientists, engineers, and practitioners to share and exchange their experiences, discuss challenges, and report state-of-the-art and in-progress research on all aspects of wireless ad hoc, sensor, and ubiquitous networks with a specific emphasis on their performance evaluation and analysis.

Dear Researchers,

We are happy to announce the first “Map-based Localization for Autonomous Driving” Workshop organized at ECCV2020. As the entire ECCV 2020, the workshop will take place in an online format. In this workshop, we will discuss the importance of map-based real-time localization for autonomous driving. We will focus on the problem of map generation and how to keep the maps up-to-date as well as which sensor technologies can be used. Furthermore, a new multi-season/multi-weather large-scale dataset specifically designed for the application of map-based localization in autonomous driving will be introduced. The workshop will host the 1st Map-based Visual Re-Localization Challenge, a new challenge that evaluates the long-term performance of visual SLAM systems under changing weather conditions.

* Challenge *

The workshop consists of a map-based visual re-localization challenge for autonomous driving. The winner of the challenge will receive 1000 USD, and the second place will receive 500 USD.

Competencias ECI 2020

Este año no habrá Escuela de Ciencias Informáticas (ECI) pero continúan las tradicionales competencias #ECI_METADATA abiertas a cualquier persona que quiera participar.

Todos los años, desde 2017, se realizan competencias en el marco de la ECI. El año pasado (2019) se presentaron dos, una de Despegar (Clasificación automática de escenas en imágenes de alojamientos) y otra de AlixPartners (Predicción de ventas estacionales) utilizando la plataforma Meta:Data de la Fundación Sadosky. Participaron cerca de 100 equipos. Se entregaron premios tanto a los primeros como segundos puestos aportados por las empresas y la Fundación Sadosky. 

Este año contamos con tres competencias de las empresas:
