Daniela Lopez de Luise The Australian Centre for Robotic Vision is pleased be running the third iteration of their first robotic vision challenge on probabilistic object detection. In the probabilistic object detection (PrOD) challenge, participants have to detect objects in video data and provide accurate estimates of spatial and semantic uncertainty. High performing competitors in this iteration of the challenge will be invited to present their work online at our ECCV 2020 Workshop Beyond mAP: Reasessing the Evaluation of Object Detectors and receive a monetary prize.

Overview
========
To aid in developing computer vision systems that can be easily applied to a robotics domain, our challenge encourages development of probabilistic object detection systems that provide meaningful estimates of both spatial and semantic uncertainty. This enable object detection to be utilised like any other sensor within already trusted Bayesian fusion frameworks
In contrast to traditional object detection challenges (such as COCO), our challenge evaluates detections using the new probability-based detection quality (PDQ) measure which rewards accurate uncertainty estimates, and penalises both overconfident and underconfident detections.
Within the challenge, competitors will detect 30 classes of object in over 56,000 images from 18 high-fidelity simulated video sequences spanning 3 unique environments viewed at 3 different simulated robot heights with both day and night lighting conditions.
As well as the ECCV 2020 PrOD challenge, we have a continuous evaluation server available for those who want to develop work in this field of research.
We invite anyone who is interested in object detection and appreciates a good challenge to please participate and compete in the competition so that we may continue to push the state-of-the-art in object detection in directions more suited to robotics applications.

on October 27-28, 2020 as a VIRTUAL CONFERENCE.
You can now propose special sessions, until June 30. The submission website
will opened then, and the paper submission deadline is on August 14.
Accepted and presented papers will be sent for inclusion to IEEE Xplore.
IEEE Circuits and Systems Society is a financial co-sponsor of NorCAS.
Participation fees will be substantially lower than normally, due to the
missing premise, catering and social event costs. You can expect something in the
range of 100 EUR (add or take a few) for participants presenting a paper.

Daniela Lopez de Luise the last few years have seen an increasing technological transfer from robotics to agriculture to develop intelligent vehicles that can significantly enhance the sustainability of agricultural systems.
Robotics technology has been recently proven to be especially valuable for the development of in-field high-throughput phenotyping platforms supporting precision farming applications, to improve natural resource-saving and health and safety conditions of the workforce, as well as to increase productivity and competitiveness of agricultural production.
In this respect, accurate and robust sensing and perception systems, taking advantage of the latest research advances in the field of machine learning and deep learning techniques, play a critical role in addressing unsolved issues such as safe interaction with workers and animals, controlled traffic applications, crop row guidance, surveying for variable rate applications, and situation awareness in general.
This Special Issue of Agronomy (impact factor = 2.259) invites original submissions addressing the study and development of sensing and perception systems to endow an agricultural vehicle with cognitive abilities to safely navigate and interact with its operational environment, with workers or other robots, as well as articles dealing with the study and development of novel data analysis techniques for crop assessment, recognition of condition using data acquired by agricultural robotic platforms, and any other relevant application of such technologies in crops and animal husbandry.
Papers providing experimental evidence in the field and involving the integration of different disciplines such as engineering, mathematics/statistics, occupational safety and health, human-machine interface and ergonomics, and environmental and computer science are particularly encouraged.
Contributions focusing on the development of agricultural robotic technologies to achieve the United Nations sustainable development goals, such as securing healthy and sustainable food and safe working conditions, and overcoming and recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic are welcome.
