The 2020 International Joint Conference on Biometrics (IJCB 2020)
combines two major biometrics research conferences, the Biometrics
Theory, Applications and Systems (BTAS) conference and the International
Conference on Biometrics (ICB). The blending of these two conferences in
2020 is through a special agreement between the IEEE Biometrics Council
and the IAPR TC-4, and should present an exciting event for the entire
worldwide biometrics research community.

** SUBMISSION **
Paper submissions may be up to eight pages with additional pages of
references in IEEE conference format. Papers longer than six pages will
be subject to a page fee for the additional pages (two max). The
additional pages for the references do not incur any extra costs.
Submissions to IJCB 2020 should represent original research work that is
not under review elsewhere. All submissions will be rigorously reviewed
and should clearly demonstrate improvements over the existing state of
the art. Papers accepted and presented at IJCB 2020 will be available at
IEEE Xplore.

** JOURNAL SPECIAL ISSUE **
A selection of the best reviewed papers from IJCB 2020 will be invited
to a special issue of the IEEE Transactions on Biometrics, Behavior and
Identity Science (TBIOM).

Wireless ad hoc, sensor, along with ubiquitous networks have recently witnessed their fastest growth period ever in history, and this trend is likely to continue for the foreseeable future. However, as such networks become increasingly complex, performance modelling and evaluation will play a crucial part in their design process to ensure their successful deployment and exploitation in practice.

This symposium will bring together scientists, engineers, and practitioners to share and exchange their experiences, discuss challenges, and report state-of-the-art and in-progress research on all aspects of wireless ad hoc, sensor, and ubiquitous networks with a specific emphasis on their performance evaluation and analysis.

Special Issue on Advanced Approaches for Multiple Instance Learning in Multimedia Applications (AMIL)

 

Multiple instance learning (MIL) is a form of weakly supervised learning where training instances are arranged in sets, called bags, while the points inside the bags are named instances and a label is provided for an entire bag. The main distinctiveness of the MIL paradigm is that only the labels of the bags are known, whereas the labels of the instances are unknown. It is not similar to classical supervised classification approaches, where the label of each data point is indeed known. This paradigm is gaining interest because it naturally fits various problems and allows leveraging weakly labeled data.

The MIL paradigm has been widely applied in multimedia applications, such as image processing, video processing, signal processing, text processing, and drug design. However, learning from bags raises some unique challenges such as the composition of the bags, the ambiguity of instance labels, and the tasks to be performed.

The objective of this special issue is to provide a forum for researchers to share their recent progresses on multiple instance learning for any type of multimedia data or applications. Papers could cover broad aspects from theoretical to engineering perspectives, including MIL techniques for modeling, MIL algorithms for image, signal, and text processing, and novel MIL designs for computational imaging in various spectral regimes (such as optical, ultrasound, microwave regimes), and so on. Contributions are also welcome concerning applications using MIL from fundamental science to applied research.

· MIL architectures for image, video, document and sound processing

· MIL approaches for face detection, pose estimation, object detection/segmentation/tracking, human behavior analysis, and image retrieval

· MIL integrated framework for learning deep representation

· MIL for supervised/unsupervised small object detection

· MIL and hybrid models for real-time computational methods

· New objective functions of MIL for image processing

· Applications for natural, medical, remote sensing research

· MIL and deep learning approaches for multimedia data

Paper submission and review process

Review papers and the papers outside the areas listed above but related to the overall scope of the special issue are also welcome. Prospective authors can contact the Guest Editors to ascertain interest on such topics. Submission of a paper to ACM TOMM is permitted only if the paper has not been submitted, accepted, published, or copyrighted in another journal. For submission information, please refer to the ACM TOMM journal guidelines (see https://tomm.acm.org/authors.cfm). Manuscripts should be submitted through the online system (https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tomm).

Guest editors will make an initial determination of the suitability and scope of all submissions. The review process will be done by following the standard review process of TOMM. Each paper will be reviewed by at least three experts in the field. In general, only two reviewing rounds will be possible, out of which major revision is possible only for the first round. Papers that after the 2nd reviewing round still need major revision will be rejected.

Special Issue on Tensor Decomposition for Signal Processing and Machine Learning


Tensor decomposition, also called tensor factorization, is very useful for representing and analyzing multidimensional data. Tensor decomposition has been applied in signal processing (speech, audio, communications, radar, biomedicine), machine learning (clustering, dimensionality reduction, latent factor models, subspace learning), and beyond. Tensor decomposition helps us to learn a variety of models, including community models, probabilistic context-free-grammars, the Gaussian mixture model, and two-layer neural networks.

 

The multidimensional nature of the signals and even “bigger” data provide a good opportunity to exploit tensor-based models and tensor network, with the aim of meeting the strong requirements on flexibility, convergence, and efficiency. Although considerable research has been done on this subject, there are many challenges still outstanding that need to be explored, like high computational cost of algorithms, tensor deflation, massive tensor decomposition, etc. The goal of this special issue is to attract high quality papers containing original research on tensor methods, tensor decompositions for signal processing and machine learning, and their applications in big data, social network, biomedical and healthcare, advanced data-driven information and communication technology (ICT) systems and others.
