Motivations
Graph-based representation and learning/inference algorithms are widely
applied to structural pattern recognition, image analysis, machine learning
and computer vision. Facing the multitude of scientific problems and the
wide applications of graph-based representations, the IAPR TC-15
(Graph-based Representations in Pattern Recognition) promotes a series of
workshops called IAPR-TC15 Workshop on Graph-based Representations in
Pattern Recognition (GbR) since more than 20 years. This series of workshops
has benefitted the community in triggering scientific research and
exchanging progresses all along years. The 12th edition of GbR was held in
Tours, France, in June 2019, and saw several original contributions linked
to the actual strong interest for deep learning and artificial intelligence.
This special issue should aim to report the last advances in theory, methods
and applications using graphs for pattern representation and recognition.
The scope ranges from various computing issues like combining machine
learning with graphs, graph mining, graph representations of shapes, images
and networks, to applications in pattern recognition, computer vision and
data mining.

– Submission period: until March 15, 2020
– Notification to Authors for the 1st reviewing round: April 30 2020
– 1st Revision submission: June 30 2020
– Notification to Authors for the 2nd reviewing round: August 15 2020
– 2nd Revision submission: September 30 2020
– Final Notification to Authors: November 15 2020
Authors can submit exclusively during the submission period and they should
select the acronym of the special issue (AGbR4PR) as “article type” when
uploading their articles.
Reviewing Process
The review process will follow the standard PR letters scheme that each
paper will be reviewed by two referees. The referees will include some TC15
program committee members and other invited referees selected from the EES.

All submissions have to be prepared according to the Guide for Authors as
published in the Journal Web Site at

Submissions must be sent through http://ees.elsevier.com/prletters/.
Authors have to select the acronym "AGbR4PR" as the article type, from the
"Choose Article Type" pull-down menu during the submission process. The
maximal length of a paper is 7 pages in the PRLetters layout and may become
8 in the revised version if referees explicitly request significant
additions. The submitted papers should not have been previously published or
be under consideration for publication elsewhere. If a submission is the
extended version of a conference paper, the original work should be
explicitly referenced and a description of the changes should be provided.
Also, in this case, PRLetters submission should include at least 30% new
material of high relevance (more experiments, proofs of theorems not
included in the conference paper, more comparisons with other methods in the
literature and so on); the title of the PRLetters paper should be different;
the same figures cannot be used, and the parts in common between the
conference paper and the extended version cannot be verbatim the same.

Daniela Lopez de Luise Extended Reality (XR) means any technology that allows the user to visualize and interact within a merge between the real world and virtual worlds created on a computer. XR applications are usually classified into three types: virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR). This Special Issue will accept papers that address the following aspects:
First, specific applications of XR in urban environments. For example, accessibility analysis of spaces, a preview of public works, visualization and interaction in Building Information Modelling (BIM models), maintenance and preservation of urban spaces, improvement of the tourist offer quality, interfaces for smart cities, etc.
Secondly, works related to technical issues for the generation of XR applications. The special characteristics of the urban environments (spaces that are open, extensive, and complex) necessitates the search for new approaches and technological solutions. These include, for example, the selection of the most suitable remote sensors for data acquisition (Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS), Aerial Laser Scanning (ALS), etc.) or the adaptation of the generated 3D models to the virtual environment. Concerning HMI, issues have arisen such as the development of algorithms or the choice of the optimal sensors for interaction in the virtual world (cameras, gloves, active or passive beacons, virtual or hardware beacons, etc.).
Finally, review articles on state-of-the-art technology related to the scope of this Special Issue will also be welcome.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. IWCIM 2020 is the annual workshop organized by the working group Multimedia Understanding through Semantics, Computation and Learning (MUSCLE) of the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM).
Multimedia understanding is an important part of many intelligent applications in our social life, be it in our households, or in commercial, industrial, service, and scientific environments. Analyzing raw data to provide them with semantics is essential to exploit their full potential and help us manage our everyday tasks. Nowadays, raw data normally come from a host of different sensors and other sources and are different in nature, format, reliability and information content. Multimodal and cross-modal analysis are the only ways to use them at their best. Besides data analysis, this problem is also relevant to data description intended to help storage and mining. Interoperability and exchangeability of heterogeneous and distributed data is a need for any practical application. Semantics is information at the highest level, and inferring it from raw data (that is, from information at the lowest level) entails exploiting both data and prior information to extract structure and meaning. Computation, machine learning, statistical and Bayesian methods are tools to achieve this goal at various levels.

PUBLICATION:
The workshop proceedings will be published in the main conference, MISSI 2020, proceedings, in a bound volume by Springer Nature in its "Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing Series" (indexed by ISI Proceedings, included in ISI Web of Science, EI, ACM Digital Library, dblp, Google Scholar, Scopus, etc.).
SUBMISSION:
All contributions should be original and not published elsewhere or intended to be published during the review period. Authors are invited to submit their papers electronically in ".pdf" format, through EasyChair. All the special sessions are centralized as tracks in the same conference management system as the regular papers. Authors are invited to submit original, previously unpublished research papers written in English, of up to 10 pages, strictly following the LNCS/LNAI format guidelines. Authors can download the Latex (recommended) or Word templates available at Springer's web site. Submissions not following the format guidelines will be rejected without review.
To ensure high quality, all papers will be thoroughly reviewed by the IWCIM 2020 Program Committee and the final decision as for the acceptance will be taken by the MISSI 2020 Program Committee based on recommendations provided by IWCIM committee. Each paper will have at least two reviews. All accepted papers must be presented by one of the authors who must register for the conference.
