COMPUTER GRAPHICS INTERNATIONAL CGI 2020, Geneva, Switzerland, 22-25 June, 2020

Computer Graphics International (CGI) 2020 will be held in Geneva, Switzerland on June 22-25, 2020. CGI is one of the oldest annual international conferences on Computer Graphics in the world. Researchers across the whole world are invited to share their experiences and novel achievements in various fields – as Computer Graphics and Human-Computer Interaction. Former CGI conferences have been held in Yokohama, Japan, Heraklion, Greece, Strasbourg, France, Sydney, Australia, Bintan, Indonesia and Calgary, Canada. This year, CGI is organized by MIRALab, University of Geneva, Switzerland together with the Computer Graphics Society (CGS).

Geneva is Switzerland’s second largest city, known as the City of Peace, and is home, among other things, to the European headquarters of UN, CERN and many museums.

CALL FOR VISUAL COMPUTER JOURNAL PAPERS  

The scientific program of the conference will include accepted papers from the first call for papers and these accepted papers will be published by Springer in the Visual Computer Journal (impact factor 1.45).

The accepted papers from the second call for papers will be included in the CGI conference proceedings published by LNCS, Springer.

Note that for both call for papers, the review process is double blind, which requires the paper and all supplemental materials to be anonymous. Ensure that self-referencing is anonymous (refer to your full name rather than “I” or “we”). Avoid providing information that may identify the authors in the acknowledgements (e.g. co-workers and grant IDs) and in the supplemental material (e.g. titles in the movies, or attached papers). Avoid providing links to websites that identify the authors. Violation of any of these guidelines will lead to rejection without review.

# CVPR 2020 Workshop on Image Matching: Local Features and Beyond

We are pleased to announce the 2nd edition of the Image Matching Workshop, co-located with CVPR 2020. Its goal is to encourage and highlight novel strategies for image matching that deviate from and advance traditional formulations, with a focus on large-scale, wide-baseline matching for 3D reconstruction and pose estimation. This can be achieved by applying new technologies to sparse feature matching, or doing away with keypoints and descriptors entirely.

# TOPICS

Workshop topics include (but are not limited to):
• Reformulating keypoint extraction and matching pipelines with deep networks
• Applying geometric constraints into the training of (sparse or dense) deep networks
• Leveraging additional cues such as semantics
• Developing adversarial methods to deal with conditions where current methods fail (weather changes, day versus night, etc.)
• Exploring attention mechanisms to match salient image regions
• Integrating differentiable components into 3D reconstruction frameworks
• Matching across different data modalities such as aerial versus ground

# CHALLENGE

In order to advance research in these areas, we will also hold the 2nd edition of an open challenge on wide-baseline image matching, co-located with the workshop. It has been greatly improved from last year: we have open-sourced the benchmark and released a new evaluation server. Winners will be awarded prizes by our sponsors, and be invited to give talks at the workshop, along with selected participants.

# SUBMISSION

We invite paper submissions in two tracks:

• Workshop papers: Up to 8 pages, excluding references and acknowledgements. They should use the CVPR template and be sent to the IMW2020 CMT site. Submissions must contain novel work and will be indexed in IEEE Xplore/CVF. They will receive at least two double-blind reviews.
• Extended abstracts: We also allow submissions of work that is published or under review. These papers will not be archived: they will be presented as posters during the workshop. The goal of this track is to encourage debate among peers. They can be as short as 2 pages or as long as 8 and may use any template. We welcome relevant papers from the main conference. They should be sent to imagematching@uvic.ca directly, as a PDF, by May 15, 2020. They should not be anonymous.

Call for participation at Women in Computer Vision Workshop – CVPR 2020

The 7th WiCV Workshop will take place on the afternoon of June 14th 2020, co-located with CVPR in Seattle, Washington. 

The workshop is a half-day event with invited speakers, a panel discussion, poster/oral presentations, and a mentoring/networking dinner. The event brings together students, faculty, and research scientists for an opportunity to exchange ideas and connect over a mutual interest in computer vision. Attendees are invited to apply to present their work. While paper submission is open to those that identify as female, all genders are invited to attend the workshop.

Extended Abstracts: We encourage primarily female-identifying (undergraduate and graduate) students, post-docs, and junior researchers in all areas of computer vision to submit a short paper (2 pages excluding references) describing new, previously, or concurrently published research or work-in-progress.

Full Length Papers: The workshop will offer the opportunity to publish full length papers in the workshop proceedings (4-8 pages excluding references). These papers should describe new work that has not been previously published, accepted for publication, or submitted for review at another venue during our review period. The accepted papers will appear in the CVPR workshops proceedings and IEEE Xplore. These papers will also be in the Computer Vision Foundation (CVF) open access archive.

– The reviewing process is single-blind.

– Authors of all accepted papers will be invited to present their work in a poster session, and a few in an oral session.

– The presenter need not be the first author of a submission.

– While all presenters will identify primarily as female, all genders are invited to attend the workshop .

– We encourage presenters of all genders to highlight the contribution of the female authors, particularly the presenting author.

Resume: Resume submission is optional. Accepted posters and orals will be selected solely based on the submission. If you choose to share your resume with industry sponsors, you should upload it to CMT on the submission page.

Travel awards: If you wish to be considered for a travel grant, please mark 'yes' to the question 'Are you applying for a travel stipend?' when submitting your paper on CMT. Those participants indicating ‘yes’ will receive a follow-up email linking to the travel grant application form.

Travel Awards

Travel grants will be awarded to a select number of accepted papers. Unfortunately, we are unable to guarantee award grants to all accepted papers. Final grant amounts will depend on the number of applications received and will be announced after paper acceptance notifications. Last year travel grants ranged from $200-$2000 depending on the location of the grant recipient. The travel grants can be used for any travel expenses incurred from attending the workshop, such as flights, hotel, and conference registration. Note that the travel grant may not (and probably will not) cover all your expenses. Travel grant recipients will be asked to provide receipts for expenses prior to receiving their award. International travel grant recipients will be required to submit additional information, including entry visa information, in order to receive reimbursement. The reimbursements will be sent shortly after the workshop.

McKernel: A Library for Approximate Kernel Expansions in Log-linear Time.

We are pleased to announce the release (v2.2) of McKernel: A Library for Approximate Kernel Expansions in Log-linear Time ( https://arxiv.org/pdf/1702.08159.pdf).
Abstract:
McKernel introduces a framework to use kernel approximates in the minibatch setting with Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD) as an alternative to Deep Learning. Based on Random Kitchen Sinks [Rahimi and Recht 2007], we provide a C++ library for Large-scale Machine Learning. It contains a CPU optimized implementation of the algorithm in [Le et al. 2013], that allows the computation of approximated kernel expansions in log-linear time. The algorithm requires to compute the product of matrices Walsh Hadamard. A cache friendly Fast Walsh Hadamard that achieves compelling speed and outperforms current state-of-the-art methods has been developed. McKernel establishes the foundation of a new architecture of learning that allows to obtain large-scale non-linear classification combining lightning kernel expansions and a linear classifier. It travails in the mini-batch setting working analogously to Neural Networks. We show the validity of our method through extensive experiments on MNIST and FASHION MNIST [Xiao et al. 2017].

Abstract:
Dr. of Crosswise proposes a new architecture to reduce over-parametrization in Neural Networks. It introduces an operand for rapid computation in the framework of Deep Learning that leverages learned weights. The formalism is described in detail providing both an accurate elucidation of the mechanics and the theoretical implications.
