Special Issue – Fuzzy Analytics and Stochastic Methods in Neurosciences.

1. AIMS AND SCOPE
Neuroscience studies the structure and function of the nervous system at various scales ranging from molecular and cellular biology to the organizational principles of perception, behaviour and cognition of humans.

Recent technological and theoretical advances provide new insights in the fundamental mechanisms of information processing in the neural system. These developments are accompanied by a tremendous growth of experimental data waiting for a deeper exploration. Modern techniques from neuro- and brain imaging, optogenetic devices as well as in vitro and in vivo multielectrode recordings generate nowadays high-quality neurophysiological data in an unreached resolution.

These rapid developments offer promising avenues to advance our understanding of the nervous system. New approaches in computational neuroscience lead to more realistic biophysical models that offer exciting opportunities for sophisticated analyses of intracellular signalling or dynamics in heterogeneous neural networks, the connection of spatial and temporal processes, multisensory integration, conditional behaviour or connections of brain regions in decision-making.

The high complexity of neural systems and the large number of constituents with an often unknown functional interconnections lead to significant computational challenges. An important consideration is the development of mathematical models incorporating the many influences of randomness, noise, uncertainty and fuzziness in both their static and time-dependent versions. The quality of prediction by a model highly depends on the integration of unprecise data and the quantification of uncertain structural parameters. A sophisticated analysis of the influence of all types of randomness, uncertainty and noise is indispensable for the development of reliable neuro-computational models.

The special issue will cover a broad range of topics in the field of neuroscience, exploring the recent advances in the field of neuro-computational models and simulations under uncertainty such as fuzzy based computational models and fuzzy trace theory as well as stochastic neural computation and neural/brain modelling with stochastic differential equations and stochastic regimes models.

                    History and thematic range

The conference is devoted to non-classical logics: modal, many-valued, temporal, paraconsistent, epistemic, deontic, substructural, and nonmonotonic logic, and their applications in computer science, artificial intelligence, formal linguistics, cognitive studies, as well as the deeper analysis of traditional philosophical problems.

The conference is organized by Departament of Logic and Methodology of Sciences of Lodz University and Department of Logic of Nicolaus Copernicus University. The first, second, fourth, sixth and eighth editions of Conference were organized in Lodz. The third, fifth and seventh editions was organized by Department of Logic at NCU in Toruń.

This is the ninth edition, under the title:

     "The origins of philosophical logic:
     70 years of Jaśkowski's and Łoś' contributions".

We will also celebrate the 25th anniversary of the journal Logic and Logical Philosophy published by the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and edited by the Department of Logic.

                         Accommodation

     There are a lot of hotels in the area of Old Town of
     Torun and around. However, as Torun attracts more and more
     tourist we advise you to book a room as early as possible.

     In case you opted for cheaper accommodation we can recommend
     the University Hotel (contact <hotel.umk@umk.pl>). It is located
     some 30 minutes walk from the conference venue and there are frequent
     bus connections from there as well.  While contacting the hotel please
     mention "Conference on Non-Classical Logic". Please be aware
     that the number of rooms in the hotel is limited.

The 6th IEEE Symposium on Computational Intelligence for Human-like Intelligence, organized as part of the Symposium Series on Computational Intelligence (SSCI), will be held in Bengaluru, INDIA, November 18-21, 2018.

Symposium organizers welcome papers related to accomplishing human-like intelligence by artificial systems. In many research domains the existing state-of-the-art AI/CI solutions significantly differ from the human competence level. Even though it is generally not clear whether human-like approach would show its upper-hand over existing methods, the exploration of this research path seems to be advantageous and challenging.
The main goal of this symposium is to promote and advance research activities related to all facets of human-like intelligence. The organizers encourage submission of the papers describing application of various Computational Intelligence paradigms  including neural networks, genetic/memetic computing, fuzzy logic, machine learning, and statistical methods to human-like intelligent behavior and problem solving.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

The fourth edition of the European Summer School on Fuzzy Logic and Applications (SFLA2018) will take place between 25 and 29, June 2018, in Bari – Italy. The school is promoted by the European Society for Fuzzy Logic and Technology (EUSFLAT).

 

The School proposes several courses delivered by world-leading experts in the field. A key aspect of the School is the focus on communication and collaboration among participants and lecturers, ensuring time for discussions so that a fruitful ground for exchanging knowledge can be established. Students and young researchers attending the school will be given also the opportunity to provide short presentations of their activities.

 

Intended audience

PhD students and young researchers represent the ideal audience for the School which aims at introducing the core aspects and the recent developments of Fuzzy Logic and related applications.
