Management Science/Operations Research Society of Malaysia (MSORSM) is delighted to announce that the 10th Triennial Conference of the Association of Asia-Pacific Operational Research Societies (APORS 2015) will be held from 02 – 06 August 2015 in Kuching, in the state of Sarawak, Malaysia. The Organising Committee is looking forward to welcome the delegates to the APORS 2015 Conference held for the first time in the state known as The Land of Hornbills. We are working towards preparing an attractive scientific programme with diverse topics to create a conducive environment suitable for encouraging and facilitating our delegates to share their knowledge and experience of OR. The conference aims to bring together members of the international OR community to discuss various aspects of OR with particular emphasis this time on the theme – OR and the Environment.


The venue of the conference, Kuching, is the perfect setting to highlight the chosen theme of the conference. Sarawak is the largest state of Malaysia with a land mass of almost 125,000 square kilometres. Hence it is no surprise that Sarawak is home to one of the oldest rainforests in the world, an epicentre of biodiversity. It houses some of the rarest flora and fauna ever discovered and sustains communities of indigenous people that still live in harmony with the land; preserving the practices of their forefathers which allow them to live off the land but not destroy the ecosystem that sustains it. These two facets of Kuching and her ways of balancing both its promising economy and her environmental treasure trove is an example of the potential positive impact OR has on operational issues for economic prosperity but still being able to preserve and protect the Environment; the two co-existing in perfect harmony.


As we march into the future, we find that the teachings of the old are kept and improved thus maintaining the delicate balance between all living things, very much like the fundamentals of OR. It is amazing that an interpretation of this isreflected in the Tree of Life, one such variation found within the living treasures of Sarawak.


The Organising Committee is looking forward to play host to all members of the OR at the APORS 2015 Conference. It is our hope that you will join us and learn, enjoy, and most importantly be a part of the APORS 2015 Conference. Organise a session, give a talk and remember to experience this great city.

This first edition of the Joint Ontology Workshops (JOWO-15) combines
four exciting ontology-centered workshops at IJCAI-15. Together with
ontology work presented at IJCAI itself, we will transform Buenos
Aires for a week into the largest venue for ontology research of the
year.

JOWO-15 is supported by the International Association for Ontology
and its Applications – IAOA. It will feature a series of (shared)
invited talks, paper presentations, and discussions spread across
four independent full-day workshops run over a period of three days:

reasoning in artificial intelligence and web of knowledge communities

handling and expressing default negations in ontologies, with a
special interest in logic programming for implementations.

Synopsis: Over the last fifteen years many jurisdictions have transitioned from vertically integrated utility based structures to competitive energy environments organized by competitive markets for generation, transmission facilities operated on an open-access common-carrier basis, and retail competition among power marketers that rely on regulated utility distribution companies for delivery. Regulation of the wholesale and retail energy markets has been reduced to structural requirements and operational guidelines and monitoring, while retaining substantial regulation of the “wires” markets for transmission and distribution. These changes entail unbundling energy from T&D, thereby reversing the vertical integration of utilities.

The experience accumulated over the last fifteen years has provided substantial insights on the market models that yield market efficiencies and value to the consumers. This course is structured primarily for the audience of Engineers and Professionals engaged in various aspects of Electricity Market (Market Operator, System Operator, Transmission Operator and Regulators).
