Abstract:

Rapid advances in generative AI have made it increasingly easy to synthesize or manipulate faces, voices, and real-time audiovisual streams, creating new challenges for biometric identity systems. This talk examines how deepfakes can affect different stages of the biometric pipeline, including synthetic identity creation, impersonation, morphing, and real-time digital injection. It will clarify the complementary roles of biometric matching, presentation attack detection and liveness, and media forensics, and review the forensic evidence that current deepfake detectors exploit.

The talk will also discuss why deepfake detection remains difficult in real-world settings and argue for moving beyond a single “real or fake” detector toward layered, evidence-based and risk-aware biometric authentication. The webinar should be relevant to researchers, practitioners, students, and security professionals working in biometrics, identity verification, media forensics, AI security, fraud prevention, and trustworthy AI.

About The Speaker: 

Siwei Lyu is a SUNY Distinguished Professor at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York, where he directs the Institute for AI and Data Science and the UB Media Forensics Lab. His research focuses on digital media forensics, deepfake and AI-generated media detection, and trustworthy AI. He leads the development of DeepFake-o-Meter, an open platform integrating state-of-the-art deepfake detection methods for research and real-world analysis. He is a Fellow of IEEE and IAPR.

AIxNET 2026 invites submissions for demos aimed at showcasing research prototypes for both classical ML and emerging generative and agentic AI networking applications, including industrial case studies, live demos, and showcases of open datasets or reproducible pipelines. Demo sessions serve as an excellent platform for both academic and industry researchers to present their prototypes, and engage in dynamic, interactive discussions.

In addition to demos, AIxNET 2026 will feature a poster session. For this, we invite researchers to submit work-in-progress results relating to all areas of interconnected AI.The poster session provides a chance for in-depth discussions with other conference attendees and is especially well-suited to obtain feedback on ongoing research, comparative evaluations, or controversial, forward-looking ideas.

Submission types and guidelines

  • Posters and Demos (3 pages). Page limits include references.

  • Format: two‑column IEEE conference style (PDF). Detailed instructions and the submission link will be posted on the AIxNET website.

  • Open artifacts are encouraged: release code/data/measurement scripts when possible; otherwise provide high‑fidelity synthetic surrogates or detailed reproduction recipes.

LAMC has a general scope on RF and microwave engineering, with the following main topics of interest:

  2. Active devices, circuits, and measurement systems
  3. RF systems and applications
  4. Communication systems
  5. Active and passive antennas
  6. Signal-power integrity and high-speed digital techniques
  7. CAD techniques for RF and microwave engineering
All accepted and presented papers will be published in the LAMC Conference Proceedings and submitted for inclusion in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library.

The countdown is on: this is the final week to take advantage of Early Bird registration for SBRM 2026!

From October 29 to 31, 2026, Guadalajara, Mexico, will host the XXIX IEEE Region 9 Student Branch Regional Meeting, bringing together student leaders, volunteers, and IEEE members from across Latin America and the Caribbean.

This year’s SBRM will offer much more than a traditional student meeting. Guadalajara provides a unique setting for the Region 9 community to experience firsthand one of Latin America’s most dynamic technology and innovation ecosystems, where global industry, academia, entrepreneurship, and talent come together.
