Special Issue “Application of Machine Learning Algorithms for Biological Data and Biological Systems”

Biological data are collected from a variety of sources, including humans, animals, and viruses. Research on these data has emerged in many fields, such as genetics, proteomics, and healthcare applications, to name a few. Presently, thanks to the development of computer technology, extracting useful data from raw biological data and deciphering intricate biological data have become more feasible through the application of machine learning techniques.

The purpose of this Special Issue is to publish recent developments in machine learning applications for biological data. We invite researchers to submit their research articles and reviews to this Special Issue. Example topics include (but are not limited to) the following, which relate machine learning applications to biological data:

  • Use of machine learning algorithms for investigating biological systems;
  • New machine learning algorithms;
  • Genetics/genomics;
  • Proteomics;
  • Medical image analysis and diagnosis;
  • Drug discovery/development;
  • Healthcare applications.

Keywords: machine learning; artificial intelligence; biological data; genetics; genomics; proteomics; bioimage; drug discovery

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

The deadline for manuscript submissions30 June 2024 (can be extended)

More details about the Special Issue can be found here.

New AI4Media events: “EU Vision for Media Policy in the Era of AI” & “Meet the Future of AI: Generative AI and Democracy” – 19 June 2024, Brussels

;text-decoration-style:initial;text-decoration-color:initial;word-spacing:0px”>Each event is tailored to different aspects of AI's role in our society and will cater to distinct audiences involved in these fields. We encourage you to register for the event(s) that best fit your interests and field of expertise.

Morning event: “EU Vision for Media Policy in the Era of AI”

Time: 9:00 to 14:30 (CEST)

This event, organised by the AI4Media project, will focus on EU media policy in the era of AI, and its impact on the media sector and society. The event will critically assess the relevant elements of the EU legal framework that address AI applications in the media sector, such as the Digital Services Act, the European Media Freedom Act, and the AI Act. It is an essential platform for media practitioners, researchers, regulators, and policymakers to discuss how to shape media policy for a better future of AI in media.

Afternoon Event: “Meet the Future of AI: Generative AI and Democracy”

Time: 14:20 to 19:00 (CEST)

The discussion in the afternoon shifts to Generative AI and its implications for democratic processes. Co-organised by AI4Media and Horizon Europe projects TITANveraAIAI4TRUSTAI4Debunk and AI-CODE, this event will focus on the challenges and opportunities posed by AI in countering online disinformation during the latest elections and other disinformation campaigns. The event is a must for the media industry, including journalists and fact-checkers, but also for policymakers, political scientists, legal/ethics experts, AI researchers and anyone interested in the intersection of AI, democracy, and media.

Call for Papers “Transparent & Reflective objects In the wild Challenges” ECCV24 Workshop

Transparent & Reflective objects In the wild Challenges” ECCV24 Workshop
Website: https://sites.google.com/view/eccv24-tricky-workshop/

We are happy to announce that the first “Transparent & Reflective objects In the wild Challenges” workshop will be held in conjunction with ECCV24

The 2nd edition of the Transparent & Reflective objects In the wild Challenges (TRICKY) workshop will discuss object classification, detection, tracking, reconstruction, depth and pose estimation from imaging data for such tricky objects to highlight and identify the related challenges in these tasks and advance the state of the art. A major focus will be put on the applicability of methods in unconstrained scenarios, such as natural scene arrangement, mix of Lambertian and non-Lambertian objects, or changing illumination. This will be achieved with a depth estimation challenge as well 5 invited talks. The workshop will also include 6 spotlight talks and up to 12 posters of contributed works to encourage the discussion of novel research directions.
