Call for Abstracts: NeuroWearX Workshop @ MIT Media Lab

Background:

The field of wearable robotics has witnessed tremendous advancements in recent years. These devices, including exoskeletons and prosthetics, offering solutions from physical rehabilitation and mobility assistance to skill enhancement, hold the potential to significantly transform our quality of life. However, the true potential can only be realized if the devices are comfortable, intuitive to use, and capable of integrating seamlessly with the wearer's body and mind. This is the juncture where neurodesign plays a pivotal role.

About NeuroDesign:

Neurodesign harnesses insights from neuroscience to understand how humans interact with technology at a cognitive and physiological level. It aims to inform the design of wearable robotics in a way that maximizes user acceptance, comfort, efficiency, and overall satisfaction. For example, by understanding the neural mechanisms underlying proprioception (our sense of body position and movement), designers can create wearable devices that provide feedback in a manner that aligns with our brain's expectations, making the devices feel more like an extension of our own body.

Workshop Overview:

We are very pleased to announce that our 1st workshop – “NeuroWearX: Amplifying Digital Healthcare with Neurodesign in Wearable Robotics” will be held both onsite and online on October 11, 2023, in conjunction with the IEEE-EMBS International Conference on Body Sensor Networks – Sensors and Systems for Digital Health (IEEE BSN 2023), at MIT Media Lab. Our goals are to explore the transformative potential of integrating neurodesign principles into wearable robotics for advancing digital healthcare.
