Call for Papers – BWAIF – 2nd Brazilian Workshop on Artificial Intelligence in Finance

2nd Brazilian Workshop on Artificial Intelligence in Finance
Satellite Event of the XLIII Congress of the Brazilian Computer Society
João Pessoa, Paraíba, July 23rd-28th, 2023.
https://csbc.sbc.org.br/2023/ii-brazilian-workshop-on-artificial-intelligence-in-finance-bwaif-2023/

Artificial Intelligence, and in particular Machine Learning, is a technology that is transforming how we integrate information, analyze data and make decisions, with large impact throughout our society. Advances in AI are being felt in our economy, with significant impacts in finance, including financial markets, services, and the global financial system more broadly.

The Brazilian Workshop on Artificial Intelligence in Finance (BWAIF), which will have its second edition as a satellite event of the XLIII Congress of the Brazilian Computer Society, will be a forum for researchers, professionals, educators and students to present and discuss innovations, trends, experiences and evolution in the fields of Artificial Intelligence and its applications in Finance.

BWAIF will take place as a Satellite event of the SBC Congress, whose theme in 2023 is the “Opportunities and challenges of the integration of the physical and digital worlds”, has a huge relationship with the development of a society that uses digital resources for financial transactions, where large institutions have focused part of their resources for the development of “phygital” platforms,  which implies the convergence of actions in the physical, digital and social aspects of organizations.

Although being an event of the Brazilian Computer Society conference, with papers being accepted in English and Portuguese, we encourage the participation of the international community, with main presentations in English. The conference will be held in person, in João Pessoa, a beautiful beach city on the Atlantic coast, the capital of the Brazilian state of Paraiba. Being founded more than 400 years ago, it has many architectural and natural monuments, with brightly painted art nouveau architecture that hints at the city’s creative tradition. A powerful coastal sunshine keeps beaches bustling year-round in Joao Pessoa, with bars, restaurants, coconut palms, and a broad promenade along the seafront.

Previous events were held in Bilbao, Genova, Warsaw, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Guimarães, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Luleå, Bournemouth and Bari.

Deep learning is a branch of artificial intelligence covering a spectrum of current frontier research and industrial innovation that provides more efficient algorithms to deal with large-scale data in a huge variety of environments: computer vision, neurosciences, speech recognition, language processing, human-computer interaction, drug discovery, health informatics, medical image analysis, recommender systems, advertising, fraud detection, robotics, games, finance, biotechnology, physics experiments, biometrics, communications, climate sciences, geographic information systems, signal processing, genomics, etc. etc. Renowned academics and industry pioneers will lecture and share their views with the audience.

Most deep learning subareas will be displayed, and main challenges identified through 24 four-hour and a half courses and 2 keynote lectures, which will tackle the most active and promising topics. The organizers are convinced that outstanding speakers will attract the brightest and most motivated students. Face to face interaction and networking will be main ingredients of the event. It will be also possible to fully participate in vivo remotely.

An open session will give participants the opportunity to present their own work in progress in 5 minutes. Moreover, there will be two special sessions with industrial and employment profiles.

ADDRESSED TO:

Graduate students, postgraduate students and industry practitioners will be typical profiles of participants. However, there are no formal pre-requisites for attendance in terms of academic degrees, so people less or more advanced in their career will be welcome as well. Shanghai, China is known as “The Pearl of Asia” and has been an important industrial and commercial center for China. The city of Shanghai offers many beautiful attractions including: The Bund, City God Temple, Shanghai and the China Art Museum and Yu Garden. One of the main attractions, The Bund, is a reconstruction of an Edo-era castle first built in 1602. In June, the Dragon Boat Festival is a huge Holiday that is celebrated. People indulge in zongzi (a traditional and savoury sticky-rice pyramid wrapped in bamboo leaves and stuffed with pork belly), local people and Tourist spend the day watching dragon boat races on the Suzhou River, Huating Lake or Huaxiang Greenland.

Every Summer, Shanghai hosts a Culture Shanghai Tourism Festival. Eight million people visit Shanghai for this festival, taking place across 20 days in countless locations across the city. Events like this combined with the unique culture of the people of Shanghai, China, offers inspiring floats, food, festivals and fireworks.

Here are some of the great benefits in store for conference participants:

• A “Best Paper Award” and a “Best Student Paper Award” will be given at the conference respectively to the authors of each best paper, as judged by the Best Paper Award Selection Committee. The winners of each award will also receive a Springer monetary prize of EUR 500.

ICRA 2023 Autonomous Drone Racing Competition

Website and registration: https://uzh-rpg.github.io/drone-racing-competition/

We are excited to announce the ICRA2023 Autonomous Drone Racing Competition. The competition will showcase the latest advancements in autonomous drone technology, and we invite you to participate. The task is to develop an autonomous algorithm that can fly a drone through a sequence of gates in minimum time. This is a great opportunity for researchers, engineers, and students to showcase their skills and network with other experts in the field. Register your team now, and let's fly to the future of autonomous drones!

**Detailed description**

The competition will have two challenges: i) state-based drone racing and ii) vision-based drone racing. The state-based challenge aims at benchmarking algorithms for planning and control from the aspect of time-optimal flight and robustness against unknown effects, such as aerodynamics. The vision-based challenge evaluates the entire system, particularly the perception. Building upon the state-based challenge, the vision-based system should be additionally robust against visual distractors, such as illumination and color changes. We will also provide an easy-to-use API to control the drone to lower the entry barrier. We will allow the participants to concentrate exclusively on the racing problem by abstracting away all the complexity of agile drone control. The competition will be hosted on our in-house simulator “Flightmare.” We believe this competition is a great opportunity for researchers, engineers, and students to showcase their skills and developments in the field of autonomous drone technology. It will also be a great platform for participants to network and collaborate with other experts in the field. The registration for the competition is now open, and we encourage you to register your team as soon as possible.

**Dates**

– Preregister now to get all new updates
– Submission deadline: 20th May 2023 (AOE).

For more information about the competition, please visit the competition website. We look forward to welcoming you to the competition and to an exciting future of autonomous drone technology.
