XX IEEE Latin-American Summer School on Artificial Intelligence (EVIC) 2025

The XX Summer School on Artificial Intelligence will take place at Universidad de los Andes, Santiago, Chile. It is jointly organized by the Chilean Chapter of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society and the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Universidad de los Andes. The summer school aims to promote Computational Intelligence, bringing together areas such as Intelligent Control Systems, Astroinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, Bio-Informatics, Robotics, Computer Vision, Computational Neuroscience, Science Data, and Big Data, among others, to disseminate basic knowledge and the latest research advances to students, researchers, and practitioners from Chile and other Latin American countries. A Student Poster Competition on Artificial Intelligence will be held during the Summer School.

Authors are invited to submit their articles (extended abstracts) in English, in PDF format, and following the IEEE style guidelines for conference proceedings. Submissions must be limited to two pages (US Letter size) including figures and tables, with an optional third page reserved exclusively for references.

Abstracts must concisely present:

  • the context and motivation of the work,

  • the methods employed,

  • preliminary results, and

  • the main contribution.

Poster selection will be based on the quality of the extended abstract. The decision notification will be sent by email. Posters must be displayed according to the schedule provided in the official program.

The 6th international workshop on Machine Learning for EEG Signal Processing (MLESP 2025, https://mlesp2025.sciencesconf.org/) to be held in Wuhan, China, from 15 to 18 December 2025, in conjunction with the IEEE International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedicine (IEEE BIBM 2025, https://biod.whu.edu.cn/bibm2025/).

Overview

EEG signal processing involves the analysis and treatment of the electrical activity of the brain measured with Electroencephalography, or EEG, in order to provide useful information on which decisions can be made. The recent advances in signal processing and machine learning for EEG data processing have brought impressive progress in solving several practical and challenging problems in many areas such as healthcare, biomedicine, biomedical engineering, BCI and biometrics. The aim of this workshop is to present and discuss the recent advances in machine learning for EEG signal analysis and processing. We are inviting original research work, as well as significant work-in-progress, covering novel theories, innovative methods, and meaningful applications that can potentially lead to significant advances in EEG data analytics. This workshop is an opportunity to bring together academic and industrial scientists to discuss recent advances.

The IEEE TCSC Award for Excellence (Technical Achievement) is awarded for significant and sustained contributions to the scalable computing community through the IEEE Technical Committee on Scalable Computing (TCSC), coupled with an outstanding record of high quality and high impact research. The award consists of a plaque and an honorarium of $1000.

The candidate must be an IEEE, IEEE CS, and TCSC member in good standing. Nomination must be submitted via email to the selection committee chair. A nomination application (as a single PDF file) should contain the following details:

1. Professional Employment Affiliations: List the nominee's current professional affiliations and titles.

2. Citation: Give a brief citation (thirty words or less) precisely stating the most salient reason(s) why the nominee is qualified for the award.

3. Technical Contributions: Describe the nominee's technical achievements in scalable computing as well as significance and impact. (Max 2-page length)

4. TCSC Contribution: Describe the candidate’s service and specific contributions to TCSC. (Max 2-page length)

5. Endorsers: Each nomination must be supported by letter from three at least endorsers. An endorser can endorse only one candidate for this award. The endorsers will be required to comment on the nominee's technical contributions as well as service contributions to the TCSC. The endorsement letters should be included in the nomination package.

SCOPE:

AIces 2026 will be the first in a series of research training events aiming at updating participants on the most recent multidisciplinary discussions about the foundations, meaning, challenges and risks of AI.

The event will have a global scope along 3 thematic lines: cognition, ethics, and society. It will cover current debates about: AI and philosophy of mind; cognitive architectures; machine learning and cognitive development; large language models and visual information; robotics and embodied cognition; neuroscience-inspired AI; algorithmic bias and fairness; transparency and explainability; accountability and responsibility; privacy and surveillance; autonomy and control; AI impact on human values and social inequalities; the future of work and automation; governance, regulation and public policies; AI, human rights and democracy; AI and global development; information and AI education.

The event will consist of 12 courses, 2 keynote lectures, 1 round table, 1 symposium collecting short contributions from participants, and 3 open thematic debate sessions. Renowned academics and industry pioneers will lecture and share their views with the audience. The organizers are convinced that outstanding speakers will attract the brightest and most motivated students. Face to face interaction and networking will be main ingredients of the event. It will be also possible to fully participate in vivo remotely.

ADDRESSED TO:

Graduate students, postgraduate students and industry practitioners will be typical profiles of participants. However, there are no formal pre-requisites for attendance in terms of academic degrees, so people less or more advanced in their career will be welcome as well.

Since there will be a variety of levels, specific knowledge background may be assumed for some of the courses.

Overall, AIces 2026 is addressed to students, researchers and practitioners who want to keep themselves updated about recent developments and future trends. All will surely find it fruitful to listen to and discuss with major researchers, industry leaders and innovators.

AIces 2026 will take place in Porto, the second largest city in Portugal, recognized by UNESCO in 1996 as a World Heritage Site. The venue will be:

STRUCTURE:

2 courses will run in parallel during the whole event. Participants will be able to freely choose the courses they wish to attend as well as to move from one to another.

Full live online participation will be possible. The organizers highlight, however, the importance of face to face interaction and networking in this kind of research training event.

All lectures will be videorecorded. Participants will be able to watch them again for 45 days after the event.

A 3-hour open debate session will be organized for each of the 3 thematic areas of the school: cognition, ethics and society. A 2-page description must be sent including the topics to be debated as well as the structure, call for contributions and dynamics of the session.

The selection of 6 courses requested in the registration template is only tentative and non-binding. For logistical reasons, it will be helpful to have an estimation of the respective demand for each course.

Since the capacity of the venue is limited, registration requests will be processed on a first come first served basis.
