AIMS AND SCOPE

 

8th World Conference on Soft Computing, Baku 2021, aims to bring

together researchers, engineers and practitioners to present the

latest achievements and innovations in the multiple areas of soft

computing, to discuss thought-provoking developments and challenges,

to consider potential future directions. One of the objectives of

the conference is to encourage participation by young researchers;

to this end student papers will be given special consideration.

SPECIAL SESSION

Proposals for special sessions focusing on fundamental theories and

innovative applications of soft computing are welcome. Submission of

proposals should include a short description of the session, its

relevance to the conference, and a list of potential contributors.

Special sessions will be open to all participants. Organizers of

Special Sessions will be responsible for a reviewing process.

 

STUDENT PARTICIPATION

Student participation is highly encouraged, be it submitting and

presenting a paper, attending the conference, or volunteering at the

conference. The Program Committee will select the best student

papers prior to the conference. These papers will be presented at a

special session during the conference. The student author of the

best paper (based on both the written submission and the oral

presentation, to be selected during this session) will receive an

award.

In recent years, the presence of autonomous robots in the real world, for example, self-driving cars, drones, and unmanned surface vehicles have significantly increased. With the recent advances in machine/deep learning, there are growing expectations that full autonomy may become a reality shortly, and it is expected to bring fundamental changes to the societies of robotics, computer vision, and artificial intelligence.

An autonomous system typically consists of a series of modules comprising perception, navigation, planning, and control. The perception system is responsible for estimating location and constructing the 3-D environment map to plan safe navigation routes. With recent advances in machine/deep learning, such as convolutional neural networks, autonomous robots’ perception, navigation, and planning, robots have become more intelligent than ever before, and such systems' applications are being realized.

This Research Topic aims to present current directions in this field and explores the problems related to machine vision and intelligence for autonomous systems in the real world. Specifically, this Research Topic will mainly focus on:

1. Affordable sensors for varying environmental conditions;
2. Reliable simultaneous localization and mapping;
3. Machine learning that can effectively handle varying real-world conditions and unforeseen events;
4. Hardware and software co-design for efficient real-time performance;
5. Resilient and robust platforms that can withstand adversarial attacks and failures;
6. End-to-end system integration of sensing, computer vision, signal/image processing, and machine/deep learning.

In this way, relevant themes for this Research Topic include, but are not limited to:

• 3D environment reconstruction and understanding;
• Mapping and localization for unmanned vehicles in the real world;
• Semantic/instance segmentation and semantic mapping;
• Self-supervised/unsupervised visual environment perception;

Information Hygiene and the Fight against the Misinformation Info-demic — CFP, IEEE CS IT Professional

Nowadays, misinformation spreads more rapidly and more broadly than reliable information does, creating an “info-demic.”  This has a serious impact globally. Though the main originators may be malicious entities exploiting social media, “fake news,” and conspiracy-theory generators, it is ourselves and our own network of people that propagate misinformation and fake content simply by sharing them often without assessing their validity.

How can we address this challenging problem facing society by leveraging technology and information hygiene practices? How can IT and AI assist people in assessing correctness, validity, and trustworthiness of a piece of information prior to sharing it? How can users be supported in adopting good habits of information hygiene? Researchers, the social-media industry, and government agencies are addressing these questions. Initiatives such as EUNOMIA, which promotes trusting over liking, and other EU projects on misinformation under the H2020 framework and similar programs in other countries highlight the seriousness of the problem and the need to address them soon, before it becomes a devastating problem.

This special issue of IT Professional seeks to present an overview of the problems and showcase recent developments that address them and applications of IT to support humans in the fight against misinformation. We invite articles that present recent advances, perspectives, and use cases in this area. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Information trustworthiness, trust, and reputation models
  • Online misinformation diffusion models and diffusion prediction and prevention
  • Information hygiene practices and “social-media information” literacy
  • AI and machine-learning approaches to identify and filter misinformation and prevent its propagation
  • Detection of deepfakes – fake image, audio, or video
  • Crowdsourcing approaches to fighting misinformation
  • Impacts of misinformation, fake news, and deception
  • Information provenance in social media and the Internet
  • Digital nudging for information hygiene
  • The role of regulatory policy in lieu of self-policing
  • Examination of the economic – for-profit – models that contribute to the info-demic
  • “Best practices” for managing mis- and disinformation across the globe
  • Role of individuals, industry, regulatory bodies, and government

Submission Guidelines

Only submissions that describe previously unpublished, original, state-of-the-art research and that are not currently under review by a conference or another journal will be considered. Extended versions of conference papers must be at least 30 percent different from the original conference works.

Feature articles should be no longer than 4,200 words and have no more than 20 references (with tables and figures counting as 300 words each). For author guidelines, see our peer review information page. All manuscripts must be submitted to ScholarOne Manuscripts (https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/itpro-cs) by the deadline in order to be considered. Submissions are subject to peer review on both technical merit and relevance to IT Pro’s readership. Articles should be understandable by a broad audience of computer science and engineering professionals, avoiding unnecessary theory, mathematics, jargon, or abstract concepts. Figures and tables should be placed in the appropriate location within the template, ideally in files that are 300 dpi or higher using the dimensions defined in the document template.

live in a world of tremendous pressure to analyze and process data more
efficiently where the
Data analytics are able to reflect hidden patterns, incomprehensible
relationships, intrinsic information relations, and segmentation. The
data applications have introduced cutting-edge possibilities in every
activity in our life. Thus, the study of data and its underlying
structure, dynamics of data relations, and newer data technologies are a
never-ending process. The literature and research on data management are

Currently, the use of technology and interrelations among information

weare examining human performance in detecting digitally manipulated
face images (morphing, retouching, swapping). We invite you to
participate in this research study by registering and completing an
