Dear Researchers,

We are happy to announce the first “Map-based Localization for Autonomous Driving” Workshop organized at ECCV2020 in Glasgow. In this workshop, we will discuss the importance of map-based real-time localization for autonomous driving. We will focus on the problem of map generation and how to keep the maps up-to-date as well as which sensor technologies can be used. Furthermore, a new multi-season/multi-weather large-scale dataset specifically designed for the application of map-based localization in autonomous driving will be introduced. The workshop will host the 1st Map-based Visual Re-Localization Challenge, a new challenge that evaluates the long-term performance of visual SLAM systems under changing weather conditions.

The workshop topics include, but are not limited to:

– Visual indirect/direct SLAM

 – Developing visual localization methods to deal with conditions where current methods fail
  (weather changes, day versus night, etc.)

 – Self-supervised/semi-supervised learning

We invite researchers to submit original research papers in the area of map-based localization. Accepted papers will be presented in a poster session during the workshop and will be published in the official ECCV proceedings.

* Submission guidelines *

Submitted papers must conform to the ECCV format and may not exceed 14 pages (excluding references) (https://eccv2020.eu/author-instructions/). All submissions will be peer-reviewed (double-blind).

* Challenge *

The workshop consists of a map-based visual re-localization challenge for autonomous driving. The winner of the challenge will receive 1000 USD, and the second place will receive 500 USD.

=== SCOPE ===
AI-DLDA 2020 is an International Summer School for young researchers and Ph.D. students with the main scope aiming at updating participants about the most recent advances in the area of Artificial Intelligence, ranging from deep learning to data analytics. This school will give an in-depth analysis of the state-of-the-art research and will cover a large spectrum of current research activities and industrial applications deal with big data, computer vision, human-computer interaction, biomedical informatics, deep learning and serious games.

=== ADDRESSED TO ===
Master's students, PhD students, researchers and industry practitioners will be typical profiles of participants. However, there are no formal prerequisites for attendance in terms of academic degrees. The selected participants will benefit from direct interaction with world leaders in AI.

=== STRUCTURE ===
The School will be organized in five on-line teaching days with keynote lectures from both academia and industry (during the morning) and laboratory sessions (during the afternoon) and 1 round table. Last day is also reserved for the final exam for those who need credits.

We are reaching out to announce a new series of virtual robotics seminars, “Robotics Today – A series of technical talks”. The goal of the series is to bring the robotics community together during these challenging times. 

 

The seminars are scheduled on Fridays at 1PM EST (10AM PST) starting from this Friday (May 15th), and are open to the public. The format of the seminar consists of a technical talk live captioned and streamed via Web (https://roboticstoday.github.io/watch.html) and Twitter (@RoboticsSeminar), followed by an interactive discussion between the speaker and a panel of faculty, postdocs, and students that will moderate audience questions.

 

We believe the transition to the online format is not an obstacle to overcome, but an opportunity to re-imagine the traditional seminar series and broaden accessibility and participation via a more interactive Q&A format. 

 

We are running this series as an experiment on online robotics community building, and we are delighted to announce that we have an outstanding lineup of speakers, including:

COVID-19 updates and Deadline Extension

After evaluating the current situation and in accordance with SMARTCOMP organizers, the organizing committee has decided to postpone IEEE SmartSys 2020 and reschedule it for 14-17 September 2020. The workshop will still take place in Bologna, Italy. Proceedings will not be cancelled, and publications will continue as planned.

All deadlines have been postponed as well, as specified below.

Technology succeeds when it provides benefits to the society either directly or indirectly. Understanding the societal and economic impact and human-centered aspects of a smart system or technology in advance and designing the system a-priori with potential value-added services help spur the discoveries of new tools, methodologies and innovative services.  Smart service systems span across a variety of socio-technical facets comprising devices, people, organizations, environments and technologies to sense, actuate, control and assess the physical, cyber and societal artifacts of the human service systems. Besides the systems being self-adaptive and fault-tolerant, it needs to be designed in such a way that it can continuously increase the quality and productivity, the compliance and sustainability of the smart services it offers. While human-centered perspective and cognitive learning help create multi-facet value-added services and catalyze the sustained economic growth of smart service systems, understanding the multi-modal sensing, control, heterogeneity and interdependency between different physical, virtual and logical components of such a complex system will enable the realization of new transformative smarter service systems. If successful, this can help improve the quality-of-service of the customers, quality-of-life of the citizens and quality-of returns of the stakeholders and investors.

Nurturing the development of smart service systems seeks for inter- and trans-disciplinary crosscutting research threads from system and operational engineering, computer science and information systems, social and behavioral science, computational modeling and industrial engineering etc.  The goal of this workshop is to bring together practitioners and researchers from both academia and industry in order to have a forum for discussion and technical presentations on the fundamental knowledge and principles of smart service systems that enable the value co-creation in sensing, actuating, data analytics, learning, cognition, and control of human centric cyber-physical-social systems and future of work.

Research contributions are solicited in all areas pertinent to smart human services and systems, including:

• Innovative technologies, tools, methodologies and solutions for smart service systems; example includes personalized healthcare, smart energy, smart cities, smart manufacturing, intelligent transportation, education, precision medicine and agriculture, national security etc.

• Information extraction and interpretation from sensors, actuators, smart phones, smart watch, and human

• Context and situational-awareness of smart service systems

• Design of people-centric services and technologies for providing better services such as food, transportation and places to live

• Novel architectures and interoperable solutions for internet of things

• Models and methodologies for designing complex smart systems

• Big data analytics approaches for innovative smart services

• Modeling, analysis, co-production, and co-evolution of human activity, behavior and interaction for the effective adaptation and percolation of longitudinal smart service systems

• Role of machine learning, artificial intelligence, robotics, pervasive computing, control theory, information and communications technologies

• Role of formal methods in computer networks, cyber-physical systems, Internet-of-Things and machine learning

• Design and developments of intelligent systems, intelligent enterprises and cyber-physical-social-systems

• Design of inter-dependent complex global systems such as healthcare, smart gird, computer networks, logistics and supply-chains, financial markets etc.

• Smart infrastructure and testbed to support the integration and test of autonomous systems and innovative applications

CISIS 2020 COVID-19 News. On-site and on-line modalities

The 13th International Conference on Computational Intelligence in Security for Information Systems
16th-18th September 2020

DUE TO THE COVID-19 OUTBREAK, THERE ARE SOME NEWS ABOUT THE CONFERENCE:

We are glad to announce the new final dates for the CISIS 2020 conference: from 16th to 18th September 2020.

For conference organizers, delegate' health has priority over all the other matters. As a result, the 2020 edition of CISIS is going to be blended, combining on-site and on-line participation. Conference delegates can choose one of the two modalities:

– on-site modality(as initially planned): delegates will meet at the conference venue and will deliver oral presentations of papers if allowed by international and Spanish regulations at that time. Social and other parallel activities could be modified according to the imposed health restrictions. We strongly encourage taking into account that there may be traveling restrictions when booking flights and accommodation.

– on-line modality: delegates will join the conference through the Internet service, without traveling to Burgos. Tools for accessing presentations and networking will be available.

The type of registration (and associated payment) could be chosen by authors until 20th July 2020. No registration modifications will be accepted after this deadline, except very limited exceptional cases.

It is compulsory for both above mentioned modalities and all authors to submit a video-presentation of papers (MP4 file) by 1st September 2020. Instructions for the video-presentation format as well as submission can be found in the following sections. this is to ensure that the conference will take place, regarded the health scene at a global or local level. We hope you understand it due to the current situation.

Delegates implicitly consent the publication and dissemination of their video-presentations through the conference digital channels, that will by publicly available. We hope you understand it due to the current situation.

Registration fees for each one of these modalities are already defined and available at http://2020.cisisconference.eu/registration/

All accepted and presented papers (both modalities) will be included in the conference proceedings (at least 1 registration is required). Additionally, these papers will be considered for its possible inclusion in a special issue of the following journals:

*** VIDEO-PRESENTATION FORMAT ****

Each speaker, no matter whether he/she is a on-site or an on-line attendee, must produce a video-presentation for each paper considering the following requirements:

* Prepare the slides using your preferred method (Power Point, Beamer, etc).
* Produce an MP4 (video plus audio) version of the slides. This MP4 file should include all the information the speaker wants to explain about his/her contribution. In addition to the slides, the video-presentation could contains extra pieces of video or any other kind of media you consider suitable.
* The deployed MP4 file should be a stand-alone MP4 file that can be played without further human intervention.

Suggestions to produce the MP4 file are:

* The simplest one is MS PowerPoint with VoiceOver (if you have prepared your slides with this tool) or any other application. See this link to get help on obtaining an MP4 file with MS PowerPoint – https://cutt.ly/byzagpz

* If you want to merge different video/media sources (slides, webcam, extra videos, ..) we suggest using open source applications, such as OBS Studio. See this link to get help on obtaining an MP4 file using OBS Studio – https://cutt.ly/JyzablM

These are simple tools that are widely used and documented in the web. You can ask us some questions at soco-cisis-iceute@ubu.es.

There are several restrictions for this MP4 file, tough:
 + Each video must be 10 minutes long at most. Longer videos will be rejected and asked for replacement.
 + Recommended resolution is 720p (1280x720px)
 + Use a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Further instructions about the submission procedure for video-presentations will be given to authors before the registration deadline.
