18th Conference on Content-based Multimedia Indexing postponed to 2021

The spread of COVID-19 in many countries worldwide, including France, has led to increased safety measures in these countries. As the organization committee of CBMI, it is essential for us to ensure that everyone can attend the conference safely as well as submit their work in the best conditions. As a consequence, it was decided to postpone the 18th edition of CBMI. The conference will be held in Lille on June 28-30, 2021. The new important dates for the submission process are listed below. A new website for the conference will be set up soon. The conference should operate as usual. During the conference, we will abide by the recommendations of the local and international health authorities at that time to offer a safe conference to everyone. Meanwhile, please keep yourself and others safe if you live in an affected region, and see you in great shape at CBMI 2021!

CBMI (eighteenth edition) aims at bringing together the various communities involved in all aspects of content-based multimedia indexing for retrieval, browsing, management, visualization and analytics. Topics of interest to the CBMI community include, but are not limited to, the following: audio and visual and multimedia indexing, multimodal and cross-modal indexing, deep learning for multimedia indexing, visual content extraction, audio (speech, music, etc.) content extraction, identification and tracking of semantic regions and events, social media analysis.

The eighteenth edition of CBMI will be organized by the CRIStAL laboratory at University of Lille, Lille, France, following the successful previous editions of Toulouse 1999, Brescia 2001, Rennes 2003, Riga 2005, Bordeaux 2007, London 2008, Chania 2009, Grenoble 2010, Madrid 2011, Annecy 2012, Veszprem 2013, Klagenfurt 2014, Prague 2015, Bucharest 2016, Firenze 2017, La Rochelle 2018, and Dublin 2019.

Authors are encouraged to submit previously unpublished research papers in the broad field of content-based multimedia indexing and applications. We wish to highlight significant contributions addressing the main problem of search and retrieval but also the related and equally important issues of multimedia content management, user interaction, large-scale search, learning in retrieval, social media indexing and retrieval. Additional special sessions are planned in areas such as deep learning for retrieval, social media retrieval, cultural heritage, surveillance and security.

Authors can submit full length (6 pages – to be presented as oral presentation) or short papers (4 pages – to be presented as posters). Papers can be submitted to the regular paper sessions, demo session, or to one of the special sessions. Additionally demonstration papers (up to 4 pages) may also be submitted that highlight interesting and novel demos of CBMI-related technologies. The submissions are peer reviewed in a single blind process. The language of the conference is English. The CBMI 2021 conference adheres to the IEEE paper formatting guidelines. When preparing your submission, please follow the IEEE guidelines given by IEEE at the Manuscript Templates for Conference Proceedings.

The CBMI proceedings are traditionally indexed and distributed by IEEE Xplore and ACM DL. In addition, authors of certain best papers of the conference will be invited to submit extended versions of their contributions to a special issue of a leading journal in the field (e.g. MTAP – Springer), and other best papers will be invited to submit extended versions of their contributions in a book (ISTE/WILEY publisher).

Sensors Journal Special Issue: 3D Images, Point Clouds and Videos classification and management by means of Artificial Intelligence approaches from industrial to agriculture applications

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to invite the academic and industrial research community 
to submit original research as well as review articles to this special 
issue of the Sensors journal (impact factor = 3.031).

In recent years, image capture systems have increasingly been used in 
industrial, commercial, and agricultural applications as a means to 
obtain information which could improve the quality of the obtained 
products. The methodologies and technologies related to video 
processing, imaging processing, 3D modeling, and multimedia have 
significantly been implemented in the field of computer vision. The 
continuous development of these technologies has led to an 
introduction of new methodologies and applications in this field. 
Machine learning algorithms and deep learning provide paradigms to 
process and classify obtained 3D images or point clouds, as well as 
video action recognition.

Recently, advancements in sensor technologies that acquire point cloud 
data have paved the way for the development of new ideas, 
methodologies, and solutions in countless remote sensing applications.

This Special Issue addresses the latest research advances in 3D image, 
point cloud, and video classification. This covers a wide area of 
applications, such as industrial pieces recognition, crop status 
management, video action recognition, etc. and several techniques: 
machine learning, deep learning, etc. The papers will help readers to 
explore and share their knowledge and experience in technologies and 
development techniques.

Agronomy Special Issue on “Sensing and Perception Systems for Situational Awareness of Agricultural Robotic Vehicles”

the last few years have seen an increasing technological transfer from robotics to agriculture to develop intelligent vehicles that can significantly enhance the sustainability of agricultural systems.
Robotics technology has been recently proven to be especially valuable for the development of in-field high-throughput phenotyping platforms supporting precision farming applications, to improve natural resource-saving and health and safety conditions of the workforce, as well as to increase productivity and competitiveness of agricultural production.
In this respect, accurate and robust sensing and perception systems, taking advantage of the latest research advances in the field of machine learning and deep learning techniques, play a critical role in addressing unsolved issues such as safe interaction with workers and animals, controlled traffic applications, crop row guidance, surveying for variable rate applications, and situation awareness in general.

This Special Issue of Agronomy (impact factor = 2.259) invites original submissions addressing the study and development of sensing and perception systems to endow an agricultural vehicle with cognitive abilities to safely navigate and interact with its operational environment, with workers or other robots, as well as articles dealing with the study and development of novel data analysis techniques for crop assessment, recognition of condition using data acquired by agricultural robotic platforms, and any other relevant application of such technologies in crops and animal husbandry.
Papers providing experimental evidence in the field and involving the integration of different disciplines such as engineering, mathematics/statistics, occupational safety and health, human-machine interface and ergonomics, and environmental and computer science are particularly encouraged.
Contributions focusing on the development of agricultural robotic technologies to achieve the United Nations sustainable development goals, such as securing healthy and sustainable food and safe working conditions, and overcoming and recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic are welcome.

Call for Papers:

 

Recent years have witnessed the rising need for learning agents that can interact with humans. Such agents usually involve applications in computer vision, natural language processing, human computer interaction, and robotics. Creating and running such agents call for interdisciplinary research of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and software engineering design, which we abstract as Human in the Loop Learning (HILL). HILL is a modern machine learning paradigm of significant practical and theoretical interest. For HILL, models and humans engage in a two-way dialog to facilitate more accurate and interpretable learning.

The workshop aims to bring together researchers and practitioners working on the broad areas of human in the loop learning, ranging from the interactive/active learning algorithm designs for real-world decision making systems (e.g., autonomous driving vehicles, robotic systems, etc.), models with strong explainability, as well as interactive system designs  (e.g., data visualization, annotation systems, etc.). In particular, we aim to elicit new connections among these diverse fields, identifying theory, tools and design principles tailored to practical machine learning workflows. In this year’s HILL workshop, we emphasize on the interactive/active learning algorithms for real-world decision making systems as well as learning algorithms with strong explainability. We continue the previous effort to provide a platform where researchers can discuss approaches that bridge the gap between humans and machines and get the best of both worlds. 

 

We welcome high-quality submissions on algorithms and system designs in the broad area of human in the loop learning. A few (non-exhaustive) topics of interest include:

·       Active/Interactive machine learning algorithms for autonomous decision-making systems,

·       Online learning and active learning,

·       Psychology driven human concept learning,

·       Explainable AI,

·       Systems for online and interactive learning algorithms,

·       Systems for collecting, preparing, and managing machine learning data,

·       Design, testing and assessment of interactive systems for data analytics,

·       Model understanding tools (debugging, visualization, introspection, etc).

Submission instructions

 

We invite submissions of full papers as well as works-in-progress, position papers, and papers describing open problems and challenges. While original contributions are preferred, we also invite submissions of high-quality work that has recently been published in other venues or is concurrently submitted. We encourage creative ML approaches, as well as interdisciplinarity and perspectives from outside traditional ML. Papers should be 4-8 pages in length (excluding references and acknowledgments) formatted using the ICML template and submitted online via the link available at https://cmt3.research.microsoft.com/HILL2020. The accepted papers are allowed to get submitted to other conference venues.
