CFP Special Sessions based Multimedia Indexing – CBMI 2020

CBMI (eighteenth edition) aims at bringing together the various communities involved in all aspects of content-based multimedia indexing for retrieval, browsing, management, visualization and analytics. Topics of interest to the CBMI community include, but are not limited to, the following: audio and visual and multimedia indexing, multimodal and cross-modal indexing, deep learning for multimedia indexing, visual content extraction, audio (speech, music, etc.) content extraction, identification and tracking of semantic regions and events, social media analysis, …

The eighteenth edition of CBMI will be organized by the CRIStAL laboratory at University of Lille, Lille, France, following the successful previous editions of Toulouse 1999, Brescia 2001, Rennes 2003, Riga 2005, Bordeaux 2007, London 2008, Chania 2009, Grenoble 2010, Madrid 2011, Annecy 2012, Veszprem 2013, Klagenfurt 2014, Prague 2015, Bucharest 2016, Firenze 2017, La Rochelle 2018, and Dublin 2019.

CBMI aims to host two special sessions during the conference. Special sessions are mini-venues, each focusing on topic within the content-based multimedia indexing field which is not directly covered by the list of topics for the conference, but which are beneficial to the community.

Special session should include four to five papers, which can be invited, or regular submissions. Special session papers will supplement the regular research papers and be included in the proceedings of CBMI 2020. In order to ensure the high quality of all conference papers, all papers submitted to special sessions at CBMI 2020 will be peer-reviewed through a standard review process, including invited papers. If a special session has many high-quality submissions, some of the submissions may potentially be moved to regular sessions. The organizers of each special session must provide 1-2 reviews per submitted/invited paper, while the regular program committee will provide 1-2 reviews. Final decision on acceptance/rejection will be made in collaboration between the special session chair (Marcel Worring, University of Amsterdam, Netherlands) and CBMI 2020 TPC chairs (Klaus Schoeffman – Klagenfurt University – Austria and Cathal Gurrin – Dublin City – University, Ireland).

You are encouraged to participate in a very special event: the 2nd Summer School on Cyber-Physical Systems and Internet-of-Things – CPS&IoT’2020 that will be held in Budva, Montenegro, 8-12 June 2020.

 

Please be informed that the CPS&IoT’2020 Summe School will host keynote lectures from prestigious speakers, as Professor Alberto Sangiovanni-Vincentelli from UC Berkeley and Prof. Ralf G. Herrtwich, Senior Director at NVIDIA.


The CPS&IoT’2020 Summer School is prepared in collaboration with Euromicro, IEEE and MANT, and is possible thanks to involvement of many outstanding researchers and developers from numerous European projects and countries.

 

A distinguishing feature of the CPS&IoT’2019 Summer School is that its lectures, demonstrations, and practical hands-on sessions:

      are based on results from numerous currently running or recently finished European R&D projects in Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and Internet-of-Things (IoT), as: 5G NetMobil, 5G-ALLSTAR, Afarcloud, AMMCOA, CONCORDIA, FitOptiVis, HERCULES, iDev40, IoT4CPS, LASSO, MegaM@RT2, NEWCONTROL, nIoVe, Productive4.0 and several others,

and

      will be given by top specialists in particular CPS and IoT fields form European industry and academia, and will deliver very fresh advanced knowledge.

 

The School gives a unique opportunity:

     to interact with outstanding specialists in the CPS and IoT area,

and

     to get acquainted with huge opportunities and impact of CPS and IoT, serious issues and challenges of their development, as well as, newest concepts, advanced knowledge and modern design tools created in numerous ongoing and recently finished European R&D projects in CPS and IoT.

 

The idea of the CPS&IoT’2020 Summer School is to be a lively discussion and collaboration forum for researchers, developers and decision-makers working in the field of cyber-physical and embedded systems through serving the following main purposes:

     dissemination and discussion of project results from European projects in CPS, IoT and ES;

     exchange of knowledge and collaboration among European projects in CPS, IoT and ES;

     advanced training of industrial and academic researchers, developers, engineers and decision-makers in CPS, IoT and ES;

     facilitation of international contacts and collaboration among the Summer School participants.

Only a limited number of participants will be admitted.

Reduced participation fee of only 400 EUR for M.Sc. and Ph.D. students, and 500 EUR for general public is till 01.03.2020.

A dependable vision system must reckon with the entire spectrum of complex unconstrained and dynamic degraded outdoor environments. It is highly desirable to study to what extent, and in what sense, such challenging visual conditions can be coped with, for the goal of achieving robust visual sensing.

Track 2: Face Verification on FlatCam Images [Register: https://forms.gle/qmgESBvqA2pPEq28A]
Despite the easy integration into numerous computer vision applications, FlatCam lensless camera images contain noise and artifacts unseen in standard lens-based cameras, which degrades its performance. This track explores new algorithms to better integrate lensless cameras into the face verification task.
1) Image Enhancement for FlatCam Face Verification
2) Image Reconstruction for FlatCam Face Verification
3) End-to-End Face Verification on FlatCam Measurements
Paper Track:
• Novel algorithms for robust object detection, segmentation or recognition on outdoor mobility platforms, such as UAVs, gliders, autonomous cars, outdoor robots, etc.
• Novel algorithms for robust object detection and/or recognition in the presence of one or more real-world adverse conditions, such as haze, rain, snow, hail, dust, underwater, low-illumination, low resolution, etc.
• The potential models and theories for explaining, quantifying, and optimizing the mutual influence between the low-level computational photography (image reconstruction, restoration, or enhancement) tasks and various high-level computer vision tasks.
• Novel physically grounded and/or explanatory models, for the underlying degradation and recovery processes, of real-world images going through complicated adverse visual conditions.
• Novel evaluation methods and metrics for image restoration and enhancement algorithms, with a particular emphasis on no-reference metrics, since for most real outdoor images with adverse visual conditions it is hard to obtain any clean “ground truth” to compare with.
