December 10th, 2014 CI2S Enterprise Content Admin The European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of
Knowledge Discovery in Databases (ECMLPKDD) will take place in Porto,
Portugal, from September 7th to 11th, 2015 (http://www.ecmlpkdd2015.org).
This event is the leading European scientific event on machine learning and
data mining and builds upon a very successful series of 25 ECML and 18 PKDD
conferences, which have been jointly organized for the past 14 years.
ECMLPKDD 2015 will host three tracks, tutorials and a set of workshops.
Therefore, we invite all researchers and practitioners from different
communities to submit papers and/or present tutorial and workshop proposals.

JOURNAL TRACK

Articles for this track are submitted all year long directly to either
Machine Learning or Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery, and are reviewed
like regular journal articles. Accepted articles appear in full in the
journal and the authors are given a presentation slot at the conference.
Articles deemed insufficiently mature for journal publication may be
accepted for inclusion in the proceedings. Submissions to the journal track
will be managed by the Guest Editorial Board.

The tutorials are intended to provide a comprehensive introduction to
established or emerging research topics of interest for the machine learning
and the data mining community. These topics include related research fields
or applications. The ideal tutorial should attract a wide audience. It
should be broad enough to provide a basic introduction to the chosen
research area, but it should also cover the most important topics in depth.
We welcome half day workshop proposals.

The workshops will be on relevant and current topics in Machine Learning and
Data Mining. The scope of the proposal should be consistent with the
conference themes as described in the ECML PKDD 2015 Call for Papers
(http://www.ecmlpkdd2015.org/
Interdisciplinary workshops that bring together researchers and
practitioners from different communities are especially welcome. We
encourage workshops that bridge the gap between theoretical advances and
important and/or innovative applications of machine learning and data
mining.
We welcome both full and half day workshop proposals.

December 10th, 2014 CI2S Enterprise Content Admin The Sixth International Conference on Swarm Intelligence and the Second BRICS Congress on Computational Intelligence(ICSI-CCI’2015) (http://www.ic-si.org) will be jointly held in Beijing, China from June 26 to 29, 2015. The ICSI-CCI’2015 will provide an excellent opportunity and/or an academic forum for academia and practitioners to present and discuss the latest scientific results and methods, the innovative ideas and advantages in theories, technologies applications in both swarm intelligence and computational intelligence methods. The technical program will cover all aspects of swarm intelligence, neural networks, evolutionary computation and fuzzy systems applied to all fields of computer vision, neural networks, signal processing, machine learning, data mining, robotics, scheduling, game theory, DB, parallel realization, etc.
Prospective authors are formally invited to contribute high-quality papers to ICSI-CCI’2015 through online submission system. Papers presented at ICSI-CCI’2015 will be published by Springer in its prestigious book series Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) (indexed by EI, ISTP, DBLP, (indexed by EI, ISTP, DBLP, Scopus, and ISI proc.) and some high-quality papers will be selected for special issues in SCI-indexed International Journals and Trans.

Special session on Fuzzy Numbers and Applications

About the session
It is well known that fuzzy set theory allows for modeling and handling imprecise information in an effective way. Since its introduction by Zadeh in 1965, a large number of scientific papers related to both theoretical and applied problems have been presented, showing its important role in many practical applications. Fuzzy numbers consist in a special type of fuzzy sets that are able to handle uncertain/vague numerical information, allowing for many applications focusing numerical values. On the other hand, many extensions to this concept have been also introduced. For example, interval fuzzy numbers allow to deal not only with numerical vagueness (lack of sharp class boundaries), but also with numerical uncertainty (lack of information) (cf. Lodwick, 2004). Some other extensions have also been discussed in the literature, e.g., hesitant fuzzy numbers and intuitionistic fuzzy numbers. The theoretical research on fuzzy numbers and related concepts (e.g., ordering and ranking fuzzy numbers, fuzzy-valued functions, approximations and representations of fuzzy numbers, representation of fuzzy-valued probabilities, fuzzy arithmetic) are crucial for the development of the various applications in many fields, as those related to data science, decision-making, image processing and classification.
The goal of this invited session is to bring together researchers interested in recent advances in the theory of fuzzy numbers and applications handling fuzzy numbers.

Uncertainties are pervasive in engineering practice due to
inherent variability and lack of knowledge. Realistically
quantifying uncertainties in analysis and design of engineering
systems is crucial. Probabilistic methods have been developed
extensively for this purpose and have led to great achievements.
Significant research is increasingly devoted to problematic cases,
which involve, for example, limited information, human factors,
subjectivity and experience, linguistic assessments, imprecise
measurements, dubious information, unclear physics, etc. In this
context, two pathways have been proposed to account for epistemic
uncertainties. First, subjective probabilities are utilized to
quantify expert knowledge on an intuitive basis in form of a
belief. The most popular implementation of subjective
probabilities in engineering is observed in Bayesian approaches.
Second, non-probabilistic concepts have attracted considerable
attention to in forms of interval methods and fuzzy methods. These
are most suitable when the available information appears in a
bounded manner with no probabilistic characteristics. The
usefulness of both concepts has been demonstrated in practical
applications. Quantification concepts and numerical methods for
processing subjective probabilities as well as fuzzy sets and
intervals in engineering analyses have already reached remarkable
capabilities.
This mini-symposium aims to bundle and disseminate the latest
developments of handling epistemic uncertainties in engineering.
Contributions are invited with emphasis on theory, numerical
methods and applications of both the non-probabilistic framework
and subjective probabilities. These may address specific technical
or mathematical details, conceptual developments and solution
strategies, individual solutions, and may also provide overviews
and comparative studies. Topics may include modelling,
quantification, analysis, design, decision-making, monitoring and
control in broad engineering areas.
