Desde 2007 los equipos argentinos que fueron a la final contaron con el
apoyo del Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación Productiva. En
años anteriores habían tenido el apoyo de la SECyT, del Ministerio de
Educación de la Nación, de la UBA y de otras empresas del medio.

** QUE ES?
La 39° Competencia Internacional de Programación (39th Annual ACM
International Collegiate Programming Contest, http://icpc.baylor.edu)
organizada a nivel internacional por ACM, y auspiciada por IBM, es la
mayor, más antigua y
más prestigiosa competencia a nivel internacional de programación. ACM
(http://www.acm.org) es la mayor sociedad científica de computación a
nivel internacional.
El objetivo de la competencia es promover la creatividad, la innovación
y el trabajo en equipo para el desarrollo de nuevos programas de
computación y permite a los alumnos testear su habilidad para actuar
bajo presión.
La competencia Internacional se inicia con competencias regionales en
todo el mundo, de las cuales salen los equipos que participan cada año
en las ACM-ICPC World Finals. Esta vez la final será del 16 al 21 de mayo
de 2015 en Marruecos, organizado por la Mohamed the Fifth University, la
Al Akhawayn University y la Mundiapolis University.

En las competencias regionales desarrolladas en 2013 en todo el mundo
participaron 10681 equipos de 2286 universidades de 94 países y 122 de
ellos quedaron clasificados para participar en la final que se llevó a
cabo en Ekaterinburgo, Rusia, en junio de 2014. (17 equipos
latinoamericanos participaron de la final mundial en Rusia, entre ellos 1
equipo argentino).
En los últimos 16 años equipos de Argentina han clasificado en la
Regional Sudamericana en uno de los primeros tres puestos, y han
participado en la Final Mundial, obteniendo en varias oportunidades
lugares muy destacados.(varias veces fueron campeones latinoamericanos).
** DONDE Y CUANDO
• El sábado 8 de noviembre de 2014 se llevará a cabo la competencia
regional latinoamericana simultáneamente en varias sedes en Chile,
Colombia, Venezuela, Perú, Brasil, Argentina, Panama, Bolivia, México y
Cuba.
• Una de las sedes de la competencia regional Sudamérica/Sur será el
Departamento de Computación de la Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y
Naturales de la Universidad de Buenos Aires. Las otras sedes de la
Regional Sudamérica/Sur son Oruro en Bolivia, Talca en
Chile y Lima en Perú.
. En la sede de Buenos Aires pueden participar también equipos de los
países vecinos, en especial Uruguay y Paraguay.
• Los primeros equipos de cada subregional de la Regional
latinoamericana podrán participar en la final internacional que se
realizará en Marruecos en 2015.
** CARATERISTICAS DE LA COMPETENCIA
• La competencia consiste en proponer soluciones y escribir programas
que pasen ciertos casos de prueba. Por cada programa que pase los casos
de prueba se asigna un puntaje. El tiempo que tarden en resolver cada
problema contará como penalidad a la hora de desempatar equipos.
• Se plantearán entre alrededor de 10 problemas y tendrán 5 horas para
resolverlos y una computadora por equipo. Los enunciados de los problemas
estarán en inglés.
• Podrán participar en la sede del Departamento de Computación de la
UBA, hasta 4 equipos por facultad de 3 integrantes cada uno, de
cualquier universidad del país y de cualquier país de la región.
Cada facultad puede establecer las formas de seleccionar sus equipos.
Pueden presentarse equipos de facultades que no hayan participado del
Torneo Argentino realizado 27/9.
** INSCRIPCION Y MAS INFORMACION
• Para participar de la competencia regional los equipos deben
inscribirse, a través de la página de ACM
http://icpc.baylor.edu/icpc/.
• Para inscribirse no es necesario especificar los nombres de los
integrantes de los equipos. Eso puede hacerse a último momento para
permitir a cada universidad seleccionar a los equipos según como crea
más conveniente.

Overview
Given the rapidly changing and increasingly complex nature of global security, we continue to witness a remarkable interest within the defense and security communities in novel, adaptive and resilient techniques that can cope with the challenging problems arising in this domain. These challenges are brought forth not only by the overwhelming amount of data reported by a plethora of sensing and tracking modalities, but also by the emergence of innovative classes of decentralized, mass-scale communication protocols and connectivity frameworks such as cloud computing, sensor networks, intelligent transportation systems and the Internet of Things. Realizing that traditional techniques have left many important problems unsolved, and in some cases, not addressed, further efforts have to be undertaken in the quest for algorithms and methodologies that can accurately detect and easily adapt to emerging threats.
The aim of the book
We sense there is a need for gathering a representative set of the most recent undertakings having to do with novel applications of Computational Intelligence (CI) techniques to the defense and security sectors.
This volume aims at publishing high-quality research efforts rooted in Computational Intelligence as applied to defense and security problems. First-class contributions addressing research challenges in these areas and their CI-based solutions (i.e., neural networks, fuzzy systems, evolutionary computation, swarm intelligence, rough sets, granular computing, and other emerging learning or optimization techniques) are solicited.
Intended audience
This book will serve as an excellent guide for surveying the state of the art in Computational Intelligence applied to challenging real-world problems in the defense and security realms. Defense scientists, industry experts,academicians and practitioners alike (mostly in computer science, computer engineering, applied mathematics or management information systems) will all benefit from the wide spectrum of successful application domains compiled in this volume. Senior undergraduate or graduate students may also discover in this volume uncharted territory for their own research endeavors.
