Intelligent embedded systems, i.e., embedded processing systems with sensors, actuators and computational intelligence -based computing ability, permeate our daily life. This symposium aims at disseminating recent achievements in computational intelligence towards embedded systems highlighting intelligent behaviors.
This symposium aspires at building a bridge between academic and industrial research, as well as among researchers working in different fields, with the specific purpose of designing systems and embedded systems able to adapt and interact with evolving environments.

HealthtyIoT 2014 is the first one of an international scientific event series dedicated to Internet of Things and Healthcare. The Internet of Things, as a set of existing and emerging technologies, notions and services, can provide many solutions to delivery of electronic healthcare, patient care and medical data management.

HealthyIoT aims to bring together technology experts, researchers, industry and international authorities contributing towards the assessment, development and deployment of healthcare solutions based on IoT technologies, standards and procedures. Accepted papers will be published in the HealthyIoT Conference Proceedings and by Springer-Verlag in the Lecture Notes of ICST (LNICST). The First International Conference on IoT in Urban Space

27 – 28 October, 2014 – Rome, Italy
 

SCOPE:

Urban spaces are the man made microcosms where a number of entities interact with each other to offer citizens a variety of services, for instance, buildings and infrastructure, transportation, utility, public safety, healthcare, education. The interplay between this multitude of connecting entities creates a complex system with dynamic human, material, and digital flows. By 2050 the world’s urban population is expected to grow by 72%. This steep growth creates an unprecedented urge for understanding cities to enable planning for the future societal, economical and environmental well being of their citizens. The increasing deployments of Internet of Thing (IoT) technologies and the rise of so-called “Sensored Cities” are opening up new avenues of research opportunities towards that future. Although, there have been a number of deployment of diverse IoT systems in the urban space, our understanding of these systems and their implications has just scratched the surface.

Urb-IoT 2014 is a new and exciting conference that aims to explore these dynamics within the scope of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the new science of cities.  The conference solicits original and inspiring research contributions from technology experts, researchers, designers, urban planners, and architects in academia and industry, and promises to offer a perfect forum to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices primarily in the area of:

  • Citizen Awareness and Engagement:  Methods and studies for citizen involvement through participatory sensing or crowd-sourcing for urban tasks, as well as behavioural change of the citizen through awareness.
  • Urban Analytics: Understanding the massive digital traces created by IoT in the urban landscape through big data analytics.
  • IoT Applications and Services in Urban Context: Urban technologies and applications that challenge the state of the art and benefit citizens, decision and policy makers, and urban planners.

PAPER SUBMISSION

All papers will be reviewed by an international program committee with the appropriate expertise.  At least two members of the Program Committee and a set of external expert reviewers will review submitted papers. At a PC meeting, the committee will select the  papers to be presented at Urb-IoT 2014. Research contributions will be selected on the basis of novelty, technical merit, and a clear presentation.  Submissions must clearly articulate how they relate to solve a particular problem in the scope of urban spaces.  Contributions describing the role of IoT in understanding urban dynamics as well as real world systems in sensing and interpreting city scale signal are particularly of interest.

Submitted papers for review must not exceed six (6) pages and should be in PDF and formatted in the ACM Double Column format.  Urb-IoT 2014  adopts a double-blind process for submitted contributions. Authors’ names and their affiliations must not be revealed or mentioned anywhere in the submission. Detailed format and submission instructions including style templates for MS Word and LaTex are provided here (Word, Latex).


 PUBLICATION

The Urb-IoT 2014 proceeding will be published by ACM and will be included in the ACM Digital Library.

Best papers will be invited to publish in the EAI Endorsed Transactions on Ambient Systems and EAI Endorsed Transactions on Ubiquitous Environments

About JELIA
================

Logics have, for many years, laid claim to providing a formal basis for the study and development of applications and systems in Artificial Intelligence. With the depth and maturity of formalisms, methodologies and logic-based systems today, this claim is stronger than ever.

The European Conference on Logics in Artificial Intelligence (or Journées Européennes sur la Logique en Intelligence Artificielle – JELIA) began back in 1988, as a workshop, in response to the need for a European forum for the discussion of emerging work in this field. Since then, JELIA has been organised biennially, with proceedings published in the Springer-Verlag series Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence. Previous meetings took place in Roscoff, France (1988), Amsterdam, Netherlands (1990), Berlin, Germany (1992), York, UK (1994), Évora, Portugal (1996), Dagstuhl, Germany (1998), Málaga, Spain (2000), Cosenza, Italy (2002), Lisbon, Portugal (2004), Liverpool, UK (2006), Dresden, Germany (2008), Helsinki, Finland (2010) and Toulouse, France (2012).

The increasing interest in this forum, its international level with growing participation of researchers from outside Europe, and the overall technical quality, have turned JELIA into a major biennial forum for the discussion of logic-based approaches to artificial intelligence.

Paper Submission
================

There are two categories for submissions:

A. Regular papers
Submissions should contain original research, and sufficient detail to assess the merits and relevance of the contribution. Submissions must not have been previously published or be simultaneously submitted for publication elsewhere.

B. System descriptions
Submissions should describe an implemented system and its application area(s). A demonstration is expected to accompany a system presentation. Papers describing systems that have already been presented in JELIA before will be accepted only if significant and clear enhancements to the system are reported and implemented.

All submissions should not exceed 13 pages including figures etc., but excluding references. All submissions should be written in English, and should be formatted according to the standard Springer LNCS style. The proceedings of JELIA 2014 are published by Springer-Verlag in the Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence, a sub-series of Lecture Notes in Computer Science (Important note: Springer will require all the LaTeX source files of all accepted submissions).

Policy on Multiple Submission: JELIA 2014 will not accept any paper which, at the time of submission, is under review or has already been published or accepted for publication in a journal or another conference. Authors are also required not to submit their papers elsewhere during JELIA’s review period. However, these restrictions do not apply to previous workshops with a limited audience and without archival proceedings.
