Dear Scientists;
Turkish Statistical Association (TİD), as an organization that works to ensure the correct use and understanding of Statistical Science at all levels of society, being an important branch of science which is included in the application areas in all branches of science and is an active part of decision processes, has been organizing International Statistical Congresses (İSTKON) for a quarter of a century. The 12th of these important congresses, will be organized under the name “International Data Science and Statistics Congress IDSSC 2024” with the main theme of “Artificial Intelligence”, being the current concept of our age.
IDSSC 2024 is an event open to all fields interested in data analysis. The congress will cover all conceivable fields dealing with data analysis, from engineering to art, from economics to sociology, from statistics to health, from education to psychology. It offers a unique platform for leading international and domestic experts, statisticians, data scientists and artificial intelligence developers in government agencies, private sector, industry and academia, to exchange ideas and explore collaboration opportunities. Additionally, this event will provide an environment where entry-level statisticians, data analysts and students will have the opportunity to learn and interact with the experienced members of the profession.
Our congress will be covering topics such as ‘Innovations in the Fields of Data Science and Statistics’, ‘Future Vision and Artificial Intelligence’, ‘Data Management’, ‘Data Analytics’, ‘Business Strategies', ‘Machine Learning’, along with applications such as the ‘Use of Personal Data and Problems’, ‘Data Governance and Privacy’.
CONGRESS SCOPE

Image and Vision Computing, Special Issue on “Advancing Transparency and Privacy: Explainable AI and Synthetic Data in Biometrics and Computer Vision”
September 19th, 2024
Daniela Lopez de Luise *PAPER SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Feb 7, 2025*
========================================
The rapid advancement of deep learning presents significant challenges, particularly in the realm of ethical data collection and usage. As regulations like the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) gain prominence, the need for rigorous ethical standards across various fields becomes increasingly apparent. In domains such as biometrics, data has frequently been collected without appropriate consent or ethical consideration. The medical field, in particular, grapples with the dual challenges of safeguarding privacy and the inherent difficulties of data acquisition.
Ensuring continued progress in deep learning requires that data collection and generation practices adhere to strict ethical guidelines. Greater control over data is essential to enhancing transparency and fairness within deep learning methodologies. Attention must also be given to the explainability of systems trained on generated data, as well as the fairness implications of using synthetic datasets. Addressing these challenges is critical to fostering more ethical and responsible advancements in deep learning.
The Special Issue aims to promote research on the use of Explainable AI and Synthetic Data to enhance transparency and privacy in Biometrics and Computer Vision. Topics include, but are certainly not limited to:
- Responsible image synthesis
- Generative models
- Assessing and comparing AI explanations
- Researching causal learning and inference
- Synthetic medical data with clinical information
- Innovative synthesis of biometric data
- Generating natural language for explanations
- AI transparency and fairness
- Learning from synthetic data
- Interpreting biometric models and vulnerabilities
- Fairness enhancement with synthetic data

Call for Fall 2024 International AI Doctoral Academy (AIDA) course proposals
September 19th, 2024
Daniela Lopez de Luise Dear Al Professors, Postdocs or Senior AI researchers,
in the framework of the AI4Media EU project funded under the European Union’s Horizon 2020, together with the ICT48 projects ELISE, VISION, HumanE AI NET and TAILOR, we have organized the International AI Doctoral Academy (AIDA) aiming to become a reference initiative for AI education in Europe and implement mechanisms for inter-university sharing of AI educational assets at PhD-level. As part of the program, AIDA offers a series of courses on Artificial Intelligence and related fields given by distinguished lecturers.
AIDA had an excellent AI course offer in the past 3 years: 41 short courses and 41 semester courses with more than 3300 registrants.
This semester (Fall 2024/winter 2025) AIDA offers an exciting selection of short, semester courses and web-lecture series designed to deepen your knowledge and skills.
Below is a list of the scheduled courses for this semester offered by top AI Universities:
* Constraint Programming
* Big Data Analytics for Natural Disaster Management (NDM)
* Deep Learning and Computer Vision for Industrial Infrastructure Inspection
* Artificial Intelligence, digital markets and consumers
* Large Language Models Development with Python and Hugging Face
* Advanced Computer Vision
* Digital Image Processing
* Computer Vision and Machine Learning – Web Lecture Series
We invite you to contribute to this initiative for the definition of the AIDA Fall semester program (from Sept 1st, 2024, to January 31st, 2025) by offering courses and becoming part of this vibrant learning community.
You can participate in the AIDA program by offering new or opening-up existing courses targeted to AIDA students* or other students worldwide according to the participation terms of your own organization. Short/Very Short course formats (5-16 hours) are typically encouraged, while semester courses, or asynchronous mode web courses will be considered as well. Accepted courses will be listed on AIDA website (https://www.i-aida.org/) and will be advertised for free with the support of AIDA dissemination channels. Proposals for courses for the AIDA Fall semester program should be sent to: Prof. Stefano Berretti stefano.berretti@unifi.it, and Ms. Efi Patmanidou epatmanidou@iti.gr and will be evaluated by the AIDA Committee.
Any qualified Al Professor/Postdoc or Senior AI researcher (PhD holder) can apply to offer a course, no matter if she/he belongs to a host University that is an AIDA member or not. The course lecturer(s) and heir host University/Institution define course fees and other course-related issues.
* AIDA Students (PhD students, Postdoc researchers, possibly qualified MSc students of AIDA Members).
>>> Please find the details of what should be included in the course proposals in the AIDA Course Application Form here.
Best regards,
Prof. Ioannis Pitas (on behalf of Prof. Berretti)
