SPECIAL SESSION 3.6
Innovative approaches to “human-centered” teaching

Chairs
Prof. Andrea Mazza, Politecnico di Torino, Italy
Prof. Carmen L. T. Borges, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Description
Today, and even more so in the future, the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in our society seems to be omnipresent, and teaching activities are already being affected. However, progress in teaching methodologies is basically “human-centered” and all the technologies involved are mere means. This section aims to collect contributions that show the innovation introduced into our courses in the post-pandemic period (new approaches, case studies with well-established methods, joint program projects, etc.), and also new policies introduced by universities to support teaching staff to develop a more conscious involvement in day-to-day teaching activities.

ABSTRACT:

Technology innovations over the years are being used to create engineering solutions at a veryrapid pace. This talk will provide a success story as an example to students charting out asuccessful career. I will articulate an example that benefits from the focus on data, which is being generated at an increasing rate. Some people characterize Data as the “new oil”. I willpostulate that Data by itself has limited Value. To create value from Data it must be positionedto solve one or more problems.

At IEEE we have created solutions that leverage our Researchbased Data and create solutions. One such solution is an Artificial Intelligence/MachineLearning based combo Search and Knowledge engine that uses NLP (Natural LanguageProcessing) called “AskIEEE”. This is a platform that allows non-engineers, students as well asexperienced engineers to ask questions and get answers. The answer is based on EEEinformation that has been ingested into the engine. The second use case creates IEEE DataPort. This is a searchable repository of research Data. The Data can be linked to the author's IEEE publication and anyone can upload Datasets. The Datasets get screened for the metadata and Quality and are assigned a DOI (Digital Object Identifier).

CALL FOR PAPERS
Artificial Intelligence x Data & Knowledge Engineering (formerly AIKE)
December 11-13, 2024
Hitachi Central Research Laboratory
Tokyo, Japan
(format: hybrid)
www.AIxDKE.org

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is concerned with computing technologies that allow machines to see, hear, talk, think, learn, and solve problems. The huge potential of applying AI to problem-solving represents an exciting future in business objectives that can be achieved much more effectively. In addition, business-business, business-customer, and customer-customer may be interconnected in a revolutionary way to stimulate a tremendous amount of interesting activities.

A core of AI is Data and Knowledge Engineering which address the acquisition, understanding, description, storage, integration, processing, control, and use of data and knowledge, among others.

With the recent advances of AI, including ChatGPT, we think it is the right time to address the broader impacts of AI on Data & Knowledge Engineering and vice versa. Artificial Intelligence x Data & Knowledge Engineering (AIxDKE), technically sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society, is an international forum for academia and industries to exchange visions and ideas in the state of the art and practice, as well as to identify the emerging topics and define the synergy between the research in AI and DKE in general.

TOPICS OF INTEREST include all aspects of DKE whose solutions may be assisted by AI, such as:
    Data modeling
    Database design
    Query processing and optimization
    Transaction management
    Crash recovery
    Integrity control
    Storage system
    Security
    Data integration
    Decision making
    Knowledge management
    Knowledge understanding and modelling
    Knowledge discovery
    Knowledge integration

AI Technologies that may be advanced by DKE applications, such as:
    Generative AI
    Transformer based technology
    Agent technology
    Semantic computing
    Machine learning
Symbolic AI including Knowledge and data engineering, planning
    Problem solving
    Multi-modal interactions

The conference proceedings will be published by the IEEE and submitted to the IEEE Xplore®. Distinguished quality papers presented at the conference will be selected for the best paper/poster awards and for publication in internationally renowned journals.

International Data Science and Statistics Congress IDSSC 2024

Dear Scientists;

Turkish Statistical Association (TİD), as an organization that works to ensure the correct use and understanding of Statistical Science at all levels of society, being an important branch of science which is included in the application areas in all branches of science and is an active part of decision processes, has been organizing International Statistical Congresses (İSTKON) for a quarter of a century. The 12th of these important congresses, will be organized under the name “International Data Science and Statistics Congress IDSSC 2024” with the main theme of “Artificial Intelligence”, being the current concept of our age.

IDSSC 2024 is an event open to all fields interested in data analysis. The congress will cover all conceivable fields dealing with data analysis, from engineering to art, from economics to sociology, from statistics to health, from education to psychology. It offers a unique platform for leading international and domestic experts, statisticians, data scientists and artificial intelligence developers in government agencies, private sector, industry and academia, to exchange ideas and explore collaboration opportunities. Additionally, this event will provide an environment where entry-level statisticians, data analysts and students will have the opportunity to learn and interact with the experienced members of the profession.

Our congress will be covering topics such as ‘Innovations in the Fields of Data Science and Statistics’, ‘Future Vision and Artificial Intelligence’, ‘Data Management’, ‘Data Analytics’, ‘Business Strategies', ‘Machine Learning’, along with applications such as the ‘Use of Personal Data and Problems’, ‘Data Governance and Privacy’.

CONGRESS SCOPE
