Machine Learning for Earth Observation (Exeter, 24-25 June 2024) 

 

We are pleased to invite you to join us at Machine Learning for Earth Observation 2024 (ML4EO). This two-day conference will take place at University of Exeter on 24-25 June 2024. You can now register and submit abstracts for talks/posters using the links below. 

 

The scientific theme of ML4EO is the application of machine learning and AI techniques to the interpretation of Earth observation data. We take a broad definition of this research area and are keen to see a diverse range of presentations, including foundational methods/techniques, specific applications and case studies, industry/practitioner experience, and issues around ethics, policy & governance. The ML4EO webpage has a more detailed list of topics, but this should not be seen as exhaustive or restrictive! 

 

The programme will include a mix of contributed talks and poster presentations, alongside panel discussions, breakout sessions, networking and an evening social event. The event will be lively, interactive and inclusive. We hope to involve participants from academia, industry, government and NGOs, at all career stages, to create a vibrant research community.

Are you working on a human-interactive robot project that already has prototypes or some initial research findings? Perhaps you're pondering how to evolve these into more human-centric, real-world applications with a seamless, intuitive “brain”-centered experience, aiming to connect robots more deeply with our bodies, minds, and souls.

Worry not! We're excited to announce the NeuroDesign EXPO in HRI Showcase Competition at ICRA 2024, in conjunction with the NeuroDesign in HRI workshop (https://neurodesign-in-hri.webflow.io/). Participation Procedure:

Our selection process is on a rolling basis, and we aim to choose 10 projects for the final on-stage pitch presentation. We especially encourage those who have already submitted their work as posters or papers to ICRA 2024 or have publications elsewhere to participate in our event. This competition offers a fantastic opportunity to increase the visibility of your research globally.

Submission Options:

Submissions can be made in one of three formats:

1. A concise 100-word abstract and a 1-2 minute video, offering a brief yet engaging overview.

2. A 100-word abstract accompanied by 5 detailed slides for a short but thorough presentation.

3. A 2-page extended abstract (Please follow IEEE ICRA format: https://ras.papercept.net/conferences/support/word.php), for a more in-depth submission.

*4. Participants are also welcome to submit using any combination of the above formats.

Final Round and Presentation:

The selected 10 projects will each have a 5-minute pitch presentation on stage during the final round. If the final project team is unable to attend in person in Japan, we will provide a Zoom link for virtual presentation. Alternatively, you may submit a polished, pre-recorded 5-minute video presentation, which we will play on stage.

Exhibition and Virtual Participation:

All submitted projects will receive a dedicated booth for poster and prototype demonstrations. For participants unable to travel to Japan, we will print your posters and display them on the bulletin boards at our venue.

The event is designed to be “Hybrid” to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate, regardless of their ability to travel to Japan. A Zoom link will be provided for your virtual participation.

Awards:

We are thrilled to present two distinguished award categories at the competition. The “Best Innovation in HRI NeuroDesign Award” will be awarded to 3 outstanding projects, as recognized by our panel of speakers and committee members. The First Prize will be awarded for USD 1000 USD and the 2nd Prize will be awarded 800 hundred for the prototyping. These projects will exemplify groundbreaking innovation within Human-Robot Interaction NeuroDesign. Additionally, the “Most Popular Project in HRI NeuroDesign Award” will be given to 2 projects, for which the First Prize will be awarded for “Full Waiver” for the submission to Journal of Frontiers in Robotics and AI in that capture the hearts of our workshop attendees and audience, determined through a popular vote. Winners in both categories will receive certificates acknowledging their achievements.

Timeline:

The evolving landscapes of user modelling, adaptation, and personalisation necessitate a nuanced exploration of context and its impact on human-computer interaction. This evolution represents a paradigm shift towards placing the user at the centre of context representation, acknowledging the multifaceted nature of context as it intertwines with user needs, environmental changes, and technological advancements. The second edition of the Context Representation in User Modeling (CRUM) workshop, themed “Human-Centric Context,” seeks to foster a comprehensive understanding of context by focusing on the dynamic interplay between subjective and objective contexts in enhancing user experience. We welcome submissions that explore the nuances of human-centric context across various domains, aiming to standardise context modelling practices that enhance user engagement, privacy, and trust in multi-stakeholder environments.

** Topics ***

Evolving from last year's workshop, CRUM 2024 invites multiple submission types. We welcome regular papers (up to 7 pages) and provocation/position papers (up to 2 pages). All details on the content expectation for both submission types are given here.

Topics considered relevant to the theme of this workshop include, but are not limited to:

  • Capturing and storing contextual information;
  • Situation-aware user modelling and adaptive system;
  • Algorithmic relevance of situational, temporal, location, and hypermedia context;
  • Context representation for personalisation;
  • Adaptation of user models based on spatial, temporal, or situational context;
  • Capturing and ranking application-specific context in hypermedia user applications;
  • Context as relevance of static and dynamic external characteristics within recommendation systems;
  • Contextualising proactive behaviour;
  • Context-aware personalised pervasive computing;
  • The role of context for user modelling in recommender systems;
  • Evaluation frameworks for capturing, representing, and using contextual information in agent decision-making;
  • Role of context and context representation within explainable adaptation;
  • Scrutability of contextual representation in personalised systems; and

Additionally, topics considered relevant to the theme of this workshop include, but are not limited to:

  • Representing human-specific context information;
  • Examining human- and domain-specific context, including similarities and differences in how it is captured, stored, or represented;
  • Privacy and context;
  • User control and management of context-aware systems;
  • Evaluation frameworks for human-centred context;
  • Impact on performance, efficiency, and usability based on context; and
  • Role of context information in natural language processing, information retrieval, human-agent interaction, and robotics.

** Submission, presentation, and publication ***

CRUM 2024 accepts two types of submissions – regular papers (up to 7 pages excluding references and appendices) and provocation/position papers (up to 2 pages excluding references and appendices).

All submissions to the workshop should use the same ACM template (single-column format) and formatting adopted by the main UMAP conference. The templates and instructions are available here.

We encourage authors to submit works in progress, negative results, insights, position papers, and case studies on context and its role in user modelling and adaptive systems.

CRUM follows a rigorous double-blind peer review policy. Please ensure that all workshop submissions are anonymised.

At least one author is expected to personally attend the conference and present the paper for it to be published. In line with the UMAP 2024 policy, hybrid activities cannot be supported.

ACM publishes accepted papers in the UMAP adjunct proceedings.

Call for Demonstrations for the 21st International Conference on Content-based Multimedia Indexing (CBMI)

The 21st International Conference on Content-based Multimedia Indexing (CBMI) welcomes the submission of demonstration papers. We invite authors to report on and showcase novel and compelling demonstrations (software, methods and experiences) in all topic areas relevant to CBMI. 

Submission Guidelines

The length of the papers should be up to 4 pages, in IEEE conference format, plus 1 page for references. One or two additional page(s) should be appended to illustrate what the demo involves and how it will be conducted on-site. This additional content will not be published in the conference proceedings, should the submission be accepted!  If possible, we also invite you to include a URL linking to a short video (max. 3 min) that shows the demonstration in action. 

Demonstration papers are subject to peer review in a single-blind process according to criteria such as novelty, interestingness, applications of or enhancements to state-of-the-art, and potential impact.

Submission Deadline

The extended submission deadline is May 6th, 2024 (AoIE). To submit your paper, follow the instructions in the submission guidelines. 

Infrastructure on Site

The conference will provide a table, power outlet, screen, wireless (shared) internet and a poster board. Presenters are expected to bring the necessary equipment (computers, etc.) themselves. If you have special needs (e.g., more space), please include a related note in the appendix of your submission (“Special Needs” section).

ICIP 2024 2nd Workshop on 3D Computer Vision and Photogrammetry (3DCVP 2024)

The 31st International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP 2024)
27-30 October 2024, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Photogrammetry and Computer Vision are two major fields with a significant overlap with Image Processing. We plan to invite presentations of high-quality works on topics that will include novel developments over classic Photogrammetric Computer Vision problems such as Structure from motion and SLAM, as well as papers with a focus on novel learning techniques over 3D geometric data. Topics of interest will include feature extraction, description and matching, multispectral and hyperspectral image processing and fusion, Multi-View Reconstruction and Surface Reconstruction, 3D point cloud analysis and processing, scene understanding, robot vision and perception, path and motion planning.
