Greetings from Indian Institute of Information Technology Allahabad.

It is a matter of immense pleasure to inform you that the 3rd IEEE International Conference on Computer Vision & Machine Intelligence (IEEE CVMI) 2024 is being organized by Computer Vision and Biometrics Lab, Department of Information Technology, Indian Institute of Information Technology Allahabad, India during October 19-20, 2024. The world-wide leading research labs, including the Applied AI Research Lab, University of South Dakota, USA, Computer Vision Laboratory, Faculty of Computer and Information Science, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, Sorbonne Center for Artificial Intelligence, Abu Dhabi, UAE, and Multimedia and Computer Vision Laboratory, Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, are the organizing knowledge partners.

The 3rd IEEE CVMI 2024 aims to provide an excellent platform for researchers to present their research findings. The IEEE CVMI 2024 conference is financially and technically sponsored by IEEE Uttar Pradesh Section. The conference proceedings will be published at IEEE Xplore. The IEEE CVMI 2024 conference is “Endorsed by International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR)” and “Technically Sponsored by IEEE Signal Processing Society Uttar Pradesh Chapter”.

The 3rd IEEE CVMI 2024 conference will feature Expert Talks by Eminent Researchers, Technical Paper Presentation Sessions, and PhD Colloquium. All submitted papers will be double-blind peer-reviewed. Paper acceptance will be based on originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of presentation. The IAPR Best Paper Award and the CVMI 2024 Best Paper Awards will be given to the outstanding papers. The Best PhD Dissertation Awards will be also given in the PhD Colloquium during IEEE CVMI 2024.

Harvard SEAS develops 10cm glass metalens for astronomical imaging

Researchers at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) have developed a 10 cm-diameter glass metalens that can image the sun, moon and even distant nebulae at high resolution. It is the first all-glass, large-scale metalens in the visible wavelength that can be mass produced using conventional CMOS fabrication technology. “The ability to accurately control the size of tens of billions of nanopillars over an unprecedentedly large flat lens using semiconductor foundry processes opens exciting new opportunities for space science,” said flat lens pioneer Federico Capasso, the Robert L. Wallace Professor of Applied Physics at SEAS (page 12).

Conectando Saberes | 20 años de Educación a Distancia en la Universidad Nacional de La Plata.

Lxs invitamos a participar del Encuentro por los 20 años de Educación a Distancia en la UNLP, que se va a desarrollar el próximo jueves 13 de junio, a partir de las 14:00 en el edificio Sergio Karakachoff.

El evento contará con la participación de autoridades de la Universidad, que estarán a cargo de la apertura del encuentro. Luego, se desarrollará el Panel “20 años de Educación a Distancia en la UNLP”, del que participarán el Secretario General de la UNLP, Patricio Lorente, el Director General de Educación a Distancia y Tecnologías de la UNLP, Alejandro Gónzalez, la Directora del CEPROM, Teresa Pérez y tendrá la invitación especial de Marta Mena.

Además, se realizará la presentación del libro “Escenarios y recorridos educativos: compilación de experiencias y buenas prácticas de virtualización en carreras de grado y pre grado de la UNLP”, con Mercedes Martin. 

Por último, la Dra. Carina Lion, brindará la conferencia plenaria “Enseñar en los escenarios digitales contemporáneos: portales y antorchas”. 

El encuentro – que no requiere inscripción previa – se transmitirá en simultáneo y en vivo por nuestro Canal de Youtube.

El día de la Ingeniería Argentina se celebra el 6 de junio recordando que en ese día de 1870 egresó, del Departamento de Ciencias Exactas de la Universidad de Buenos Aires, el primer ingeniero civil de Argentina: Luis Augusto Huergo.
Lo acompañaron en esa primera promoción otros once egresados.
 
 
1. — IEEE AR LMAG – Webinario “Control Automático aplicado a Medicina y Neurociencias”
El  jueves 6 de junio de 2024, a las 18:00 AR (GMT-3:00) tendremos la próxima reunión del Grupo de Afinidad de Socios Vitalicios del IEEE en Argentina (IEEE AR LMAG). 
En esta oportunidad el PhD Ing. Ricardo Sánchez- Peña disertará sobre “Control Automático aplicado a Medicina y Neurociencias“.
Es esta una excelente ocasión para encontrarnos en el día de la Ingeniería Argentina.
 
Resumen:
Esta presentación tratará sobre la aplicación de técnicas avanzadas de  Control Automático al proyecto del Páncreas Artificial y al control de regiones cerebrales.
El primer proyecto será útil para los pacientes con Diabetes tipo 1 (insulino-dependientes) y el segundo, en el mediano y largo plazo, para el tratamiento de la epilepsia y/o la enfermedad de Parkinson.
Ambos proyectos están siendo desarrollados en Argentina.
 
Disertante: Ricardo Sánchez-Peña
Ingeniero en Electrónica (UBA), Master y PhD del California Institute of Technology.
Es Investigador Superior CONICET (R) y dirigió el Depto. de Investigación y Doctorado del ITBA (2009-2022).
Trabajó en CITEDEF, CNEA, CNIE y CONAE (Argentina). Colaboró con NASA y las agencias espaciales de Alemania y Brasil.
Fue Profesor en la UBA (1989-2004) llegando a Titular Plenario, becario Ramón y Cajal y Profesor e Investigador Senior de ICREA en la UPC (Barcelona, España), así como profesor e investigador visitante en universidades de EEUU y consultor para ZonaTech (EEUU), Alstom-Ecotecnia (España), STI y VENG (Argentina). Dirigió proyectos en EEUU, España, UE (FP7) y Argentina.
Publicó 6 libros en Springer, Wiley, Elsevier y nacionales y más de 200 trabajos en revistas y conferencias.
Es Life Senior e Ingeniero Eminente de la Región Latinoamericana del IEEE, Académico Titular de la Academia Nacional de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales (ANCEFN),  y recibió -entre otros- premios de la NASA, la Fundación KONEX, y la Academia Nacional de Ingeniería (ANI).
Trabajó en ingeniería acústica, mecánica, aeroespacial, procesos y neurobiología.
Dirige el proyecto Páncreas artificial en Argentina ( https://diabetek.org/ ).
